Primary Purpose:
A music therapist's key responsibilities include establishing goals for therapy, collecting and analyzing data from the student's responses to music, and customizing treatment plans to each student. New treatments must be improvised to meet the student's musical therapy needs. The music therapist will integrate behavioral, developmental, and neurological approaches into music therapy treatments. Music therapy provides emotional support, coping mechanisms, and physical rehabilitation. Students are provided with a creative outlet for their feelings through music.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Hold certification from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the principles and practices of music therapy and music instruction methods
Knowledge of the various appropriate music therapy activities used for the therapeutic treatment of individuals with disabilities
Demonstrates effective and professional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Experience
At least one year of therapeutic experience working with school aged children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
Use therapeutic music interventions in accordance with students' physical or cognitive needs, capabilities, and interests.Assesses needs and administers direct music therapy treatments in order to provide habilitative and rehabilitative servicesPerforms a thorough evaluation, assessing the needs of the student receiving services, and sets measurable objectives.Plans and organizes music therapeutic activities in accordance with students' needs, capabilities, and interests.Observes and evaluates students' reactions to various experiences and documents therapeutic changes and progress in the IEP.Adjusts therapy to achieve maximum results.Reports progress to the teacher, ARD committee, student receiving services, and family members or guardians.Provides treatment progress and status documentation in accordance with the IEP goals.Maintains and submits documentation in the format and timelines required by the ARD committee and in compliance with, local, state and federal regulationsAttends ARDS, teacher and parent or guardian conferencesDevelops, teaches, and assesses the plan of therapy.Uses appropriate methods and tools in all teaching and training activities.Maintains professional conduct in relation to information that is confidential in nature sharing information only when the recipient's right to access is clearly established and the sharing of such information is clearly in the best interest of the student served.Performs other duties as assigned in response to the person serviced, office, and/or program needs Qualifications *Student Growth and Development

Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook and IEPs.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.Communication
Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, campus administration, and teachers.Maintain a positive and professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents/guardians, and community members.Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.Regularly communicate with parents/guardians, students, and community partners through phone, face-to-face conversations, virtual meetings and email.Collaborate with the special education teacher, other campus/district staff and parents/guardians to develop IEPs
and schedule ARDS for students and ensure the implementation of the IEP by coordinating with various
staff and agencies as needed.
Professional Growth and Development
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.Other
Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulation policies and procedures for classroom teachers.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Attend and participate in meetings and training as required.Regular attendance

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
