Summary of Position 

The senior Multiplatform Producer-Features specializes in shaping and creating the digital presentation of ExploreLI, FeedMe and LI Life packages/special annual projects and collaborates with editors around the room to assist on digital storytelling in additional content areas, including news and business. The producer monitors metrics data and works closely with newsroom editors to shape actionable insights about how editorial coverage is performing across platforms.  

The role is designed for journalists who can provide deep analysis of content topics to identify opportunities to drive engagement, experiment with evolving digital display strategies and grow conversions as we serve our loyal subscribers and seek new, diverse subscribers. The producer is a key partner in collaborative projects among Newsroom/Product/Web Development teams to shape content strategy initiatives and experiments, ranging from SEO to personalization to emerging digital platforms. 
 
Essential Duties & Functions  
Oversee digital storytelling presentation and monitor metrics strategy for Newsday.com’s features and news sections. This includes: 

  • Work with features, news and multimedia editors to help shape digital storytelling concepts from inception. Use newsroom platforms to prioritize alternative storytelling approaches on ExploreLI/FeedMe/LI Life/Business stories, including embedding photos, videos, graphics and animations and using widgets as needed. 
  • Collaborate with Web Development to expand new and existing web presentation platforms for annual projects.
  • Work independently with metrics software programs to produce weekly and monthly reports. Analyze data to identify trends and share actionable insights with newsroom editors and reporters to help grow and diversify Newsday’s audience. Attend weekly or monthly desk meetings.
  • Use Parse.ly, Google Search Console and other SEO tools to forecast trends and monitor real-time/long-range performance of Newsday content. Maintain familiarity with the industry’s evolving SEO best practices, emerging tech and strategize how changes should be integrated into the newsroom’s workflows. 
  • Monitor XLI/LI Life/FeedMe pages on Newsday.com to improve headlines for SEO. Look for related media to attach and internal links to add to story text with the goal of improving recirculation on the site. 
  • Look for technical/UX glitches and typographical errors. Check ledes, cutlines and graphic elements to ensure Newsday digital style is followed. 
  • As time allows, check evergreen content, especially those that are popular or timely, to ensure they are working properly and flag problems as they are discovered. 
  • Improve SEO headlines on weekend news posts and offer digital assist on stories outside of features team, as needed; other duties as assigned.  
     

Help Promote Newsday’s Content. This includes: 

  • Write push and email newsletter alerts for features and LI Life stories. Work with supervisors and desk editors to execute. Track performance and strategy.  
  • Coordinate with social media team to establish posting strategy for features stories and projects.
  • Work with homepage producers and editors to create promotion plans for various pieces of content.
      

Essential Job Knowledge & Skills 

  • Understanding of journalism ethics/standards and AP style. 
  • Expertise or familiarity with standard metrics and SEO programs such as Parse.ly, Metrics for News and Adobe. Advanced Excel/spreadsheet management skills are a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to shape journalistically sound insights from raw metrics data. 
  • Collaborative mindset focused on building a rapport with others on a cross-functional team. 
  • Willingness to multi-task on quick-turnaround assignments and long-term projects, pivoting as the team’s priorities shift. 
  • Ability to work a flexible and varied schedule to include weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed to support business needs. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Employees are generally required to work in the office and/or out in the field a minimum of three (3) days per week

  

Compensation 

  • The annual salary for this role is $87,720.20 , commensurate with experience.  
  • This position is represented by the Graphics Communication Conference, PPPWU.
