Color, Material, and Finish Designer , reporting to the

Industrial Designer , to support the development of optimized materials, colors, and details that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

You will be working closely with Industrial Designers, Ops team and engineers to establish design strategies that add value to the experience of our astronauts onboard, and to the overall experience of the Vast brand. You will be involved in every aspect of the CMF design process. This includes research, analysis and translation, mood and story creation, material innovation, development of CMF strategy, and execution of final color, materials, and finishes for production.

position located in our Long Beach

location.

Responsibilities:

Establish design strategies that add value to the space station experience, implementing optimized materials, colors, and details that meet engineering requirements and standards.

Utilizes excellent knowledge/understanding of design specifications and manufacturing requirements to ideate, visualize, and develop color and graphic design concepts appropriate for transportation products

Collaborates, strategizes, and negotiates with cross functional teams, including manufacturing and suppliers, through all phases of development to implement production of final CMF designs to meet haven-1 milestones

Collaborate with a variety of vendors to source appropriate materials

Work with agencies to test and validate new innovative materials

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial / Transportation / Graphic Design

4+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree in material science or a

6+ years of related work experience in a related field.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

Ability to express unique designs through physical prototyping

Ability to perform conceptual design activities such as sketching and modeling as well as creating mock-ups and visual communication material

Ability to demonstrate ideation/concept generation in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to easily navigate through different computer software programs

Ability to create and update request for proposals (RFPs), purchase orders (POs) and facilities work orders in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Ability to make independent judgments with limited information

Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees, vendors, and customers

Logical and strategic approach to solving problems

Ability to read and understand basic floor plans

Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted

Specific certifications, as appropriate

Salary Range: California $85,000—$120,000 USD
