The collection includes old, rare books, maps, photographs, unique specialized journals and serials, as well as current materials. It is one of two statutory, complete historical depositories for Louisiana state documents. Responsibilities include: maintenance of the historic state documents collection, oversight of stack maintenance, filling interlibrary loan requests, ordering supplies, supervision of one student worker, reference desk duties when short staffed, and special projects. Special Projects may include preservation and digitization projects under supervision by the Section Head. The position requires daily interaction with the Recorder of Documents Office, Technical Services, and the Serials and Circulation Sections.Duties:30% State Documents:- Receives and stamps all state documents with ownership stamp- Shelves state documents, advising department head of missing items, lapsed subscriptions, gaps in the collection.- Performs bibliographic searches in the online catalog to verify titles.20% Digitization and preservations projects:- Assists Section Head in Preservation tasks.- Digitizes materials and applies appropriate metadata as needed.- Refreshes archival DVDs as needed.20% Student Supervision:- Trains and supervises students in daily routines that include receiving and shelving Louisiana materials and maintenance of the vertical files.- Monitors productivity and quality of student work performance.- Keeps track of the students? schedules and verifies and signs their time sheets.20% Works at the public desk assisting patrons in use of library materials.- Answers patron questions.- Helps patrons find items in the collection.- Shows patrons how to search online databases.- Retrieves printouts and payment for them.10% Other:- Prepares the Advocate and Times Picayune for patron use.- Shelves all Louisiana serials.- Prepares and submits Requests for Purchase for the Louisiana Dept; reconciles monthly purchasing card invoices.- Collects all statistics for the section and prepares monthly and quarterly excel spreadsheet reports for management.- Performs basic book repair.- Maintains office supplies and departmental equipment.- Recommends changes in workflow to the Section Head.- Other duties as requested.AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLWOING COMPETENCIES:Competency #1: Accepting Direction: The ability to accept and follow directions from those higher in the chain of command.Competency #2: Communicating Effectively: The ability to relay information correctly and appropriately to connect people and ideas.Competency #3: Developing Performance: The ability to assist others in advancing their skills, knowledge, and performance levels over time.No Civil Service test scoreis required in order to be considered for this vacancy.This position is in a Career Progression Group to aLibrary Specialist 3.
