The Marketing and Communications Associate works under the direction and supervision of the Marketing and Communications Director to assist with communications and marketing strategies of the School Sisters of St. Francis Marketing and Communications Office. Responsible for helping maintain the congregation’s consistent image and identity through internal and external print and digital communications. Assists in presenting the School Sisters of St. Francis to the public and communicates the congregation’s values, activities, needs, and goals to internal and external audiences.

This position is scheduled for 20 hours per week and is benefit eligible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marketing and Communications Associate will assist the Marketing and Communications Director in these duties:

1. Research, develop questions, conduct phone and face-to-face interviews, write, and proofread feature articles for the congregation’s twice-annual

ALIVE

magazine for donors, annual report, and internal newsletters (

U.S. News, Congregation Connections

).

2. Write original articles and help adapt print articles for publication on the congregation’s website.

3. Research, develop questions, conduct phone and face-to-face interviews, write, and proofread articles and news briefs for placement in external publications, including diocesan newspapers, religious periodicals, and secular publications.

4. Assist local and national print and broadcast media contacts via phone, email, and/or social media to facilitate content placement.

5. Assist in writing and proofreading marketing materials such as PowerPoint slideshow presentations, brochures, flyers, posters, speeches, and cards.

6. Assist in writing and proofreading sisters’ obituaries and words of remembrance for diocesan and secular print publications.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications, or another communications-related academic field.

·

At least two years of professional experience that includes receiving editorial direction and successfully applying editorial feedback.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

· Ability, interest, comfort, and enthusiasm for researching, developing and contributing story ideas, conducting interviews, writing, and proofreading.

· Ability and comfort in receiving, processing, and responding effectively to editorial direction and professional feedback from the Marketing and Communications Director.

· Excellent attention to detail with English spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style elements.

· Ability to comfortably detect and interpret a variety of English accents and dialects when conducting phone and face-to-face interviews.

· Comfort with sensitively presenting and explaining concepts of Catholic doctrine, practice, and social teaching to a wide range of audiences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

**** Basic ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions within the context of feature writing.

REASONING ABILITY:

**** Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Ability to produce excellent work independently and remotely, while staying in regular contact with Marketing and Communications Office staff during defined office hours.

· Willingness and ability to meet with Milwaukee-based Marketing and Communications Office staff and participate in scheduled in-person and virtual meetings and events.

· Excellent time management and organization skills, including responding to time-sensitive deadlines.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

· Ability to develop and demonstrate a working knowledge of Catholic terminology, doctrine, and social teaching, and in particular the charism of the School Sisters of St. Francis.

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is required to use hands to finger, to handle, and to feel objects, tools, or controls.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

· The person in this position must maintain their own professional remote office to conduct the business of the School Sisters of St. Francis, including the ability to participate in professional video conference meetings. A reliable internet-connected device, phone, and internet access are required, as are the software programs and apps needed to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
