Assistant Director of Graphic Design

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Graphic Design will play a crucial role in executing the Duke Athletic Department's digital, marketing, and social media strategy, helping to establish the university as a leader in college athletics. Working under the direction of the Executive Director of Creative Services and in close collaboration with colleagues in External Affairs, the Assistant Director will be responsible for creating visually appealing designs that accurately reflect the Duke Athletics brand.

Essential Functions:

Design visually appealing and engaging graphics for official Duke Athletics social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) that align with the department's social media strategy.Conceptualize, design, and produce materials for marketing campaigns such as sport posters, email newsletters, and print and digital advertisements.Collaborate with program-specific creative teams, including Creative Services, Communications, Blue Devil Network, Marketing, and the Ticket Office, to generate innovative ideas and execute marketing and communications campaigns. Create rough drafts and incorporate feedback to refine and enhance designs.Manage the day-to-day social media content and monitoring of an assigned varsity sport, including posting to official team accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other emerging platforms.Partner with Duke Athletics photographers to ensure necessary assets are obtained for designs.Assist in annual updates to the Creative Service team's visual guidelines.Ensure all designs adhere to both Duke University and partner brand guidelines.Serve as a liaison between Duke Athletics and outside agencies to ensure third-party work meets brand principles.Stay up to date on industry trends, social media algorithms, and emerging technologies to enhance designs accordingly.Maintain organized files of design projects and assets.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in graphic arts, communications, or a related field.Ability to effectively handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.Expertise in still graphics and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.Preferred:

1-2 years of professional graphic design experience.Experience, either as a student or professional, working in a college athletics communications, digital/social media, or marketing department.Skilled in motion graphic design.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires the ability to perform skilled and creative graphic arts functions generally acquired through two years post-secondary training in graphic or commercial arts or a related field.

Experience

Work generally requires one year graphic arts or related experience to OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE techniques. acquire knowledge of and skill in design and layoutmethods and
