Duties and Responsibilities

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Office of Community Relations (CRO) seeks a highly motivated candidate to serve as the Public Relations Manager to help further the agency’s mission. The Office of Community Relations coordinates the public communication efforts of FWC’s divisions and offices to educate Floridians and visitors about the role and value of Florida's fish and wildlife resources and foster a sense of stewardship.

The FWC is populated by people who are passionate about what they do and strongly desire to help Florida's residents and visitors while balancing the needs of the state’s fish and wildlife resources.

The successful candidate for the Public Relations Manager position will be proactive and passionate about the agency’s success and the public’s perception of the agency.

This position reports to the Office of Community Relations Communications Director. It will work closely with the Social Media Manager, Media Services Manager, Audio Visual Team Leader, Budget Analyst, Statewide Call Center Director and other agency staff as and when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the department’s communications director in planning, developing, managing and coordinating communications strategies, including social media messaging across all platforms.

Sync communications strategies and messaging with agency goals, priorities and focus.

Make timely and effective decisions.

Assist in the coordination of media public records requests across the agency.

Assist in performing media liaison duties for the agency during high-profile incidents.

Plan and develop informational materials for press conferences and other media events and assist the communications director with coordinating such events.

Serve as the media spokesperson for multiple assigned program areas, responding to media requests by providing timely, clear, concise, and consistent information related to FWC’s programs, policies, and activities. This includes issues that may be of a sensitive or urgent nature.

Draft, edit, proofread, and revise communications deliverables as needed (e.g. public notices, articles, news releases, informational bulletins, and fact sheets.) Will serve as the main backup for sending out communications deliverables.

Staff press conferences, media events, editorial boards, groundbreakings, ribbon-cuttings, bill-signings, public meetings, and staff events as needed.

Serve as a liaison between the Office of Community Relations and Divisions/Offices within FWC.

Compile and distribute daily electronic news clips to agency staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years of professional experience in communications, public/media relations, and writing in a professional setting.

Management or team lead experience.

Ability to work in a confidential environment.

Ability to work nights and weekends on occasion in response to high-profile incidents.

Ability to operate well under pressure, manage multiple projects and work positively in a team environment.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
