Overview

To ensure a positive and professional image and increase brand awareness of Honest Weight Food Co-op (HWFC) both in-house and within the community.

Status

Full-time; salaried position, $70,000-$80,000/year based on experience

This position belongs to the Management Team which also includes the Cooperative Leadership

Job Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Education
  • Ensure that HWFC's mission and commitment to community engagement is at the forefront of branding and advertising efforts
  • Maintain and grow HWFC community connections throughout the Capital Region, with a focus on like-minded organizations and non-profits in the food justice space
  • Identify and establish programs and initiatives that will increase shopping, participation, and representation at HWFC from shoppers who live within <1 mile of the co-op
Branding
  • Ensure that HWFC's branding reflects the interests and priorities of the diverse communities that co-op serves
  • Lead the further development of the HWFC brand identity
  • Reinforce our current HWFC brand identity
  • Ensure HWFC brand standard compliance both in-store, within the Membership and within the community
  • Guide/Create promotional marketing materials for HWFC
Sales
  • Financial success is the foundation upon which we achieve all our goals from accountability to our member owners to the triple bottom line (People, Planet, Profit), Diversity Equity and Inclusion, a Living Wage, Community Outreach and more. Because financial success is foundational, the Marketing Manager's major responsibility is to generate revenue by increasing sales through successful marketing for the entire organization, using market research, pricing, product marketing, marketing communications, advertising and public relations.
  • Ensure the organization's message is articulated and distributed across channels and to targeted audiences in order to meet sales objectives.
  • Apply marketing principles, branding, strategy, conceptual models (e.g. value proposition, Unique Selling Proposition, SWOT analysis, Blue Ocean)
  • Prepare a marketing plan and articulate a marketing strategy.
  • Articulate marketing return on investment and relationship to financial goals.
  • Utilize market research, pricing, product marketing, marketing communications, advertising and public relations.
Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Actively pursue an Anti-Racist agenda in all aspects of HWFC branding, advertising, and marketing, and work collaboratively across the Mission-Based Team to ensure that principles of Anti-Racism and Inclusion are actively applied.
  • Ensure inclusion and representation of BIPOC voices through all HWFC platforms; specifically through brand ambassadorships and digital/social media influence.
  • Stay current in the DEI and Anti-Racism spheres, incorporating latest best practices in all HWFC branding, advertising, and marketing materials, particularly as they relate to substantive copywriting and program development.
Marketing/Team Responsibilities
  • Provide monthly marketing report encompassing all Advertising goals and accomplishments by maintaining HWFC branding, print, and social for management review
  • Create an annual marketing plan including competitive analysis, budgeting, establishing goals and positioning.
  • Hold a weekly marketing team meeting, comprised of marketing and mission-based teams, to

o Create events, classes, themes, programs, etc

o Identify marketing needs

o Assign responsibilities

o Develop timelines and deadlines

o Plan, brainstorm and troubleshoot

  • Work with the marketing team to create and monitor,

o Ad plan calendar

o Web plan calendar

o Membership event calendar

  • Coordinate marketing efforts/standards by leading Marketing Team and working with our Operational teams and ensure store wide follow through
  • Track and monitor marketing goals & promotions including ROI on campaigns Advertising
  • Maintain, strengthen, guide HWFC brand positioning in all internal and external advertising/marketing
  • Create and maintain annual advertising/marketing budget
  • Serve as point of contact for all advertising/marketing requests
  • Investigate advertising/marketing leads and purchasing decisions
  • Guide and create visuals for all HWFC advertising/marketing including but not limited to: digital, social, print, web, radio, tv, etc.
  • Track ROI on advertising/marketing initiatives
  • Manage sponsorship placement with the Community Relations Specialist
Online/Digital Media
  • Work to maintain and improve our website
  • Oversee the creation of our HWFC social media plan and establish goals
  • Oversee the weekly social schedule and delivery to departments
  • Ensure our preload schedules social media and in-store screens
  • Monitor online images, reviews, and responses
  • Oversee HWFC email marketing program
PR
  • Serve as point of contact with all press needs
  • Create and maintain HWFC press kits
  • Cultivate relationships with media organizations
  • Proactively write and distribute press releases to garner as much coverage as possible
  • Cultivate B2B connections with local businesses and community organizations
Visuals & Material Production
  • Aid in the creation of all Membership and Board Material, e.g. Annual report
  • Work on store decor, planning, merchandise plan, and other tasks assigned by the CLM
  • Responsible for guiding the look of all HWFC branded materials including stationery, press release, internal and external event signage, website, advertising, and social media.

Position Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of advertising and marketing natural foods, regional products, food retailing trends and managing in-house creative and or marketing teams
  • Extensive knowledge of the Capital Region and its diverse communities, including knowledge of and/or interest in the local food justice space
  • Awareness of and familiarity with successful implementation of Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles in advertising and marketing strategies and materials.
  • 5 years + of

o Ad purchasing experience

o Social networking experience

o Graphic design

o Leading/Overseeing/Directing Media Advertising Campaigns

o Branding standards

  • Demonstrated understanding of marketing and merchandising principles and best practices
  • Demonstrated visual/spatial capabilities
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Previous success in a deadline-driven creative environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work both independently and manage/lead the marketing team
  • Must be able to consistently and safely lift & carry up to 30lbs. Must be able to push and pull carts weighing up to 100lbs
  • Advanced computer skills (use and maintain spreadsheets, graphic layout and production, word processing, Adobe Suite, email, internet applications etc.)
  • Flexibility in scheduling. Occasional early mornings, late evenings, and weekends outside of store hours
  • Ability to work cooperatively with respect for all stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service
  • Experience with maintaining store brand standards and style guide
