Systems Administrator
Summary of the Position:
Reporting to the Enterprise Infrastructure Manager, the System Administrator is tasked with ensuring the stability, configuration, and smooth operation of the organization’s computer systems, applications, and servers. This role involves the installation of hardware and software and active participation in research and development to meet the evolving IT needs of the company. The System Administrator is also responsible for troubleshooting and resolving system issues promptly to minimize disruption. Additionally, this role involves researching and implementing new technologies and developing project plans.
Roles and Responsibilities:
System Maintenance: Administer and maintain support for software, hardware, and servers; test, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve related issues.
Technical Support: Provide timely technical support to users and collaborate with them to address and resolve existing problems.
Security Protocols: Implement and utilize top-tier security protocols to safeguard both existing and new infrastructure systems.
Systems Administration: Perform administration tasks for Windows AD Infrastructure, Office 365, software updates and patches, anti-virus, local and cloud-hosted systems, and backups.
Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of server and application environments.
Collaboration: Work closely with Senior Systems Administrators, Network Administrators, Helpdesk personnel, and end-users regarding system changes and future needs.
Reliable Operations: Ensure the maintenance and reliable operation of computer systems, virtual servers, and virtualization environments.
Upgrades and Automation: Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose hardware and software errors, document problems and resolutions, prioritize issues, and assess their impact.
Technical Specifications: Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgraded IT infrastructure.
Capacity and Performance: Assist with capacity planning, storage management, and database performance optimization.
Technology Implementation: Research, recommend, and implement new technologies.
Communication: Provide timely communication on project updates and resolve issues escalated from the helpdesk team.
System Integration: Improve business unit synergies through technology systems integration and support system compatibility.
Access Privileges: Regularly review all local and cloud-hosted system access privileges.
Automation: Automate repetitive system administration tasks.
Authentication Measures: Implement authentication measures to enhance security while creating Single Sign-On (SSO) environments.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned and ensure regular onsite attendance.
Minimum Requirements:
Networking Knowledge: Understanding of networking concepts, routing/switching, operating system technologies, cybersecurity technologies, IP, advanced protocols, LAN, and WAN.
Microsoft Expertise: Proficiency in Microsoft Server versions 2012 to the most recent, Microsoft Active Directory, and Office 365/Exchange.
Operating Systems: Working knowledge of server and desktop/laptop operating systems, including Windows Server 2012 to 2022 and Windows 10 and 11.
Performance Tuning: Strong ability to monitor and tune server and network systems for optimal performance.
VMware Experience: Experience with VMware 6.5+ for configuring and managing virtual servers.
IT Best Practices: Knowledge of IT operations best practices, including security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse company environment.
Professional Etiquette: Excellent verbal, phone, and written etiquette.
Reliability: Proven ability to follow instructions, multitask, and work under supervision.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, move, and inspect computer equipment and work at a computer screen for prolonged periods.
Office Conditions: Work in standard office conditions with occasional travel within the building, including GMP areas, to resolve issues or complete tasks.
Onsite Presence: Regular onsite attendance is required.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Cost Analysis: Expertise in cost analysis and control for current and prospective systems.
Team Communication: Communicate effectively with the IT team, supervisors, and other departments, fostering a positive team environment.
Adherence to Instructions: Follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors or senior systems administrators regarding projects, issues, and company objectives.
