Overview

The JR DESIGNER will support the Overhead Standards & Planning Group (OHSP). This candidate will be responsible for creating and updating technical drawings, editing specifications, and designing along with engineers for various projects related to Con Edison's overhead electric system and equipment. The selected candidate will have opportunities to work with other groups and designers within Distribution Engineering from other disciplines. This position allows designers to be involved in all stages of the design process, from inception, pilot/test, to finished plans. This position requires a working knowledge of technical drafting and electrical power system basics. Applicant will review design work including but not limited to preparation and development of construction drawings and documents; coordination of design work with other designers and engineers; performing field walks as required; and design support during construction inside or out of company facilities, within entire Coned territory.The applicant must be able to read and prepare utility layouts and construction drawings including general arrangement plans, sections, elevations, and installation details as well as working with drafting standards. The applicant will be trained to read and interpret industry IEEE codes, manufacturer equipment drawings and material specifications. The applicant will work with civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering disciplines, designing new and modifying existing equipment and procedural specifications. The applicant must be dedicated, self-motivated, highly responsible, and able to work both independently and on teams. The applicant is required to have a strong computer proficiency with the ability to perform drafting and design in AutoCAD 2D as well as work effectively with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of 3D design in AutoCAD or other programs is desirable.

Core Responsibilities

Qualified candidates must have the ability to perform drafting and design in Autocad 2D/3D as well as the capability to read and interpret electric, civil, and structural drawings. Candidates must also understand and follow all related company engineering specifications.Jr designers will be responsible for the design and preparation of drawings related to the addition of new and modified equipment existing in Con Edison facilities across all territories.Jr. designers will also be aiding Engineers in drafting and updating Company Specifications of the Electrical Distribution System, Underground Structures, and Cable.Duties include design of all related structural elements as well as placement and design of electrical equipment as specified in companies specification and procedures.The applicant must possess strong written and verbal communication skills the ability to interact professionally with personnel on all levels. Proficiency in Microsoft 360 Suite is required.The working environment consist of both office and occasional field visits.Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.The applicant must be dedicated, self motivated, and able to work both independently and in a team environment.The individual must have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

High School Diploma/GED and 2 years Design Work Experience orAssociate's Degree In Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology

Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree Bachelor of Science DegreeIn Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology

Relevant Work Experience

AutoCAD 2D / 3D drafting/drawing/designing Required

Licenses And Certfications

Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS)
