Graphic DesignerJob Summary:The Graphic Designer (GD) has a passion for helping our clients enhance their visual storytelling through communication and environmental graphic design. Our Graphic Designer has stellar conceptual and hands-on design experience and a portfolio of work that is compelling and highly creative. The GD will focus on bringing a client's vision, identity, and story to life as a built expression and visitor experience through environmental graphic design.With exceptional organizational skills, design sensibilities, and attention to detail, they will support the design and production of complex projects through tight deadlines. This is a client facing role intended to develop and support the environmental and communication design portion of our project work.This role-in strong collaboration with a client and internal project team and with support of Director of Graphic Design-will be responsible for all graphic design aspects of their individual assigned projects. They will be responsible for setting and communicating work plans and workflows that are responsive to project schedules and budgets. They are the representative of all graphic design work on assigned projects.Our Graphic Designer is passionate, driven, motivated, and possesses exceptional communication, design skills, and conceptual thinking!Primary Responsibilities:Support conceptual development and illustrate design concepts through a variety of mediums, including hand sketches, mock-ups, and proof of concept sample art.Create and apply graphic systems to exhibit and experience design projectsCollaborate with 3D exhibit designers and exhibit developers to conceptualize and execute project deliverablesWork closely with the Design team from concept to production as a key member of the project teamSupport the development of an experience's visual design strategy through use of color, form, hierarchy, typography, imagery, materiality, and methodsSupport the creation of presentations, graphics, or documentsSupport the design and organization of graphic systems, panels, super graphicsBe a design ambassador for client and internal workInterpret and execute feedback with a collaborative and positive mindsetManage time and effort across multiple projects from design development through documentation and coordinationHands-on creation of print-ready graphicsProject Responsibilities:Support the development of original graphic and experience design concepts based on content, creative, and exhibit design goalsResponsible for supporting project kick-off, and contributing to design thinking on and ongoing communication on assigned projects.Collaboration with Content, 2D, and 3D Project Leads to ideate, benchmark and establish the design concept and look and feel of a space.Adhere to project timelines and budgets to ensure that proper time is being aligned to scope, while escalating and problem solving as issues ariseSupport the establishment of project templates, style guides, and workflows for each project and ensure the team adheres to clean asset management and clear communicationSupport the creation of presentationsProvide constructive feedback and input with project team and 2D leads to ensure excellent creative output and executionResearch, develop, and define materials and methods for design work and coordinate effectively with Production Designers to ensure design intent is realized in productionSupport the maintenance of a holistic project design approach and execution through consistent coordination with internal design team, external design vendors, and media partners and freelancers, providing timely and actionable guidance and direction.Qualifications:Experience with museum graphic design or related field4+ years experience in graphic design, environmental graphic designExcellent typography and layout skillsUnderstanding of exhibit construction and materials and print production processExperience in brand identity creation or in the application of established visual guidelinesProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Google workspaceAn eye for detail and accuracyThe ability to rapidly communicate and execute on ideasFlexibility and agility; excellent problem-solving skillsExcellent communications skills; verbal, written, and sketchAbility to work well under pressure in a highly collaborative environment.Experience in hand sketching and rapid ideationExperience in 3D modeling (SketchUp) a plusWork Life:Preference for this role is a hybrid schedule of in-person and remote work based out of the Luci Creative studio just outside of Chicago. Given the responsibilities of this role, we anticipate at least 3 days in-office weekly will be necessary to effectively complete responsibilities. We value the collaboration, creativity, mentorship, and learning that comes from being in the same workspace with your team. We also value flexibility, and understand that some work is done best at home or in an otherwise remote environment away from the office.
