DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is open to Colorado residents and non-residents applicants.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

About this Work Unit The Communications Unit manages internal and external communications for the Colorado Department of Transportation, providing timely, accurate information regarding the organization, its initiatives, projects and progress to its external and internal audiences.

About this Position This position is a vital part of a two-person team that delivers the communications program in CDOT s Region 3, the northwestern portion of the state. This position is a staff authority responsible for supporting both external and internal communication in Region 3, including developing strategy, managing communications projects and overseeing consultant work.

The duties also include researching and developing messaging, press releases, fact sheets and other collateral; creating videos, graphics, social media posts and web pages; managing and creating internal communication outreach (eblasts, campaigns, videos and the Intranet); coordinating public events, preparing for media interviews and serving as spokesperson, and assisting the customer service team.

This position will focus on communications needs, both planned and emergencies, along and around the I-70 Mountain Corridor in Region 3.

Major Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop emergency and non-emergency scheduled posts, monitoring and reporting; Create and manage and new project management tool that tracks all Region 3 construction projects (active and future), also manages other database lists (towns, chambers & media); Create and deliver internal videos and various campaigns (Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, Public Service Recognition Week and others); create, deliver and manage the Region 3 Intranet google site content organization, messaging and updates; Coordinate external special events (such as ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, media tours and media briefings) and assist as needed (conducting communications-specific tasks) for internal/employee events such as Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, etc.).; Provide communications strategy development and implementation of selected programs or projects (upon discussion with Region Communications Manager) including working with other project managers, assessing stakeholders, developing key messages and develop ng all tactics and implementation; Supports the customer service team with providing information on key issues so they can better inform customers (i.e. major closures, snow events, etc.); Respond to emergency and crisis incidents to implement, manage and coordinate communications of timely and accurate information; Manage and coordinate planned communications and emergency communications; Other duties as assigned.
