ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.

The Water Services Department is seeking a GIS Technician. The GIS Technicians are responsible for editing the departments Geographic Information System (GIS) to maintain a record of the infrastructure utilizing the ESRI suite of products. Position requires interpreting water and wastewater infrastructure information from Private Development and Capital Improvement Project Asbuilt record plans and entering water and sewer infrastructure data into the GIS. Also performs field verification; minimal project management and application development responsibilities; and interface with other City employees and the public.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Good quantitative and report-writing skills.Basic understanding of telemarketing and/or media surveys.Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products, geographic information systems, databases and/or spreadsheets.SALARY

Pay Range: $23.74 to $44.77 per hour.

Hiring Range: $23.74 to $33.41 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate's degree or equivalent course work at a technical or vocational school, in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science, or a related field;OR Two years of experience working with geographic information systems.Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.The City job description can be found here .All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.For information regarding pre-screening and driving positions, click here .PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with:

Reading and interpreting water and wastewater plans is preferred.ESRI software including ArcGIS for Desktop and its extensionsGIS databases.
