We have an exciting opportunity for a strategic communications leader to serve as a key member of the senior leadership team in BAE Systems Intelligence and Security (I&S) sector, reporting to the sector President. The Vice President of Communications has full-spectrum leadership for all aspects of the sector s corporate communications, including communications strategy, executive communications, media relations and crisis management, marketing, recruitment marketing, social media, creative services, internal communications, and community investment. The Vice President also serves on the company s Communications Leadership Team, helping to shape enterprise-wide communications strategy and execution. This role is based at our sector headquarters in McLean, VA. I&S employs approximately 6,500 geographically dispersed employees.

Responsibilities:

Develop and direct execution of a communications strategy that is purposeful, comprehensive, and measurable in support of the brand, corporate strategy, and business and growth objectives.

Provide strategic communications counsel to the sector president and senior leadership team on: media relations; crisis preparedness and management; and regulatory, policy and legislative initiatives. This includes anticipating and identifying challenges and emerging issues that may affect the sector s reputation, and proactively developing strategies to address them.

Provide communications counsel and deliverables to business areas and functional leaders to help achieve strategic and financial objectives.

Partner and collaborate with BAE Systems, Inc. communications senior leaders and teams to ensure a coordinated communications approach, resulting in a consistent brand experience across the enterprise.

Coordinate with Government Relations on local, state and Federal government relations efforts, to include developing: company positions on key public policy issues, key leader contact plans, and effective communication strategies in support of lobbying.

Have the ability to represent the sector as its chief spokesperson with the media and other key stakeholders on public issues that affect the company and the competitive environment in which we operate.

Direct the development and implementation of an effective global media relations program aligned with overall BAE Systems messaging to promote positive coverage of the company and to convey its strategic themes and differentiating capabilities to a broad audience. Build and nurture trusted relationships with key external stakeholders.

Continue to enhance the company s presence and engagement with digital tools, including the company website and a range of social media platforms.

Oversee the development and execution of marketing communications strategy in order to position BAE Systems as a market and thought leader, maximize positive exposure and achieve brand and product awareness, including advertising, sponsorships, trade shows, exhibitions and special events. Ensure all materials related to corporate marketing, advertising and sponsorship meet BAE Systems brand standards and are consistent with corporate messaging.

Develop and implement a recruitment marketing strategy and targeted campaigns to help the sector attract new talent across a variety of geographies and skill sets.

Using multiple communication channels, lead the development and execution of a sustainable internal communications program that increases employees understanding and support of BAE Systems vision, values, and initiatives; one that meets the needs and interests of employees, and inspires and drives engagement.

Drive the sector s community investment program, including corporate sponsorship, charitable giving, community relations, and compliance with all corporate policies. The program seeks to meet company goals of community partnership, responsible stewardship of resources, and strengthening our employees connection to our mission, our strategy, and the community.

Manage, mentor, develop, and retain talent. Ensure the communications team is optimally structured, aligned, and collaborating in order to deliver work with maximum impact.

Demonstrate alignment with the sector s cultural principles and model safe, inclusive, and ethical behavior.

Ensure compliance with appropriate Company policies and procedures.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Bachelor s degree plus at least 15 years of related communications experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

A demonstrated track record of success developing and executing successful communication programs and driving business growth and concrete results for an organization.

Strategic, innovative, and critical thinking in order to define communications strategy, resolve issues in a variety of complex situations, and take I&S communications to the next level.

This role demands engaged leadership skills and the ability to influence, shape, and lead at all levels.

Strong relationships within the media industry and deep understanding of the power of digital communications to drive awareness and credibility.

Impeccable judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure, including representing senior leadership in a variety of situations.

Leadership and management experience with coaching and mentoring skills. A focus on talent development and the ability to achieve results through others.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

MBA or MS degree in related field preferred.

Corporate communications experience in a defense market environment.

In-house PR experience

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $194600 - $330800

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
