General Information:

The Office of Advancement Marketing at James Madison University is seeking a Creative Strategist to play a vital role in developing strategic content to support fundraising and engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will have considerable project management experience as well as a track record of developing persuasive promotional materials; compelling, meaningful storytelling in support of fundraising and stewardship; and excellent editorial and graphic design skills.

This position works closely with communications and marketing, fundraising and stewardship staff as well as with campus partners in support of fundraising and stewardship strategies and events for donors and donor prospects. This 3-4 day a week part-time position reports to the Associate Director of Advancement Marketing and pays $23.11/hr (average of 24 hrs/week, maximum of 29 hrs/wk). This work schedule is flexible/ hybrid, although a minimum of 1-2 days a week on campus (at the office) during office hours is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the development of creative concepts for a variety of marketing materials that are engaging, persuasive and attractive while complying with JMU brand standards.• Leverage donor intelligence in the graphic design and copywriting of print and digital materials (including solicitations, funding cases, giving menus, gift proposals, event collateral, white papers, newsletters, impact reports, web pages, social media and magazine ads) to develop compelling messaging in support of fundraising and engagement.• Cultivate and maintain relationships with Advancement partners, print vendors, and serve as a project lead when assigned.• Assist in the AM team collaboration of developing marketing strategies, tactics and messaging for donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.• Serve as a content creator and communicate project status to team members and partners.• Utilize Basecamp to organize, create project schedules, summarize, and then archive design files for future reference.• Learn JMU tools and systems - Cascade, Basecamp, Marketing Cloud, iModules

Qualifications:

Required:

Relevant experience in communications, graphic design or a related field.Experience in public relations or cause-based, branded content creationKnowledge of graphic design and digital marketing principles and practices, as well as print production proceduresAbility to produce professional content through Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.Experience collaborating with teams and managing projects, especially related to content creationExceptional written communication skills with outstanding attention to accuracy and detailDemonstrate the ability to juggle multiple projects efficiently while maintaining priorities, deadlines, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.Self-confident with a positive attitude and tenacity to get things doneExcel in an independent work environment and at taking initiative

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
