Description
The Digital Communications Coordinator will be responsible for managing the Detroit Health Department’s social media platforms, updating the website, creating digital content, and engaging with audiences to enhance an online presence.
Examples of Duties
Content Creation and Management
*Develop, write, and edit engaging content for the Detroit Health Department's website, newsletters, and digital platforms
*Create videos to enhance outreach and engagement
*Collaborate with various teams to gather and share relevant content
*Take photographs during events and key meetings
Social Media Management
*Manage and grow the organization’s social media presence on platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram,
*Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, and engage with followers
*Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies as needed
Website Management
*Regularly update and maintain the organization's website
*Ensure website content is SEO-friendly and adheres to best practices
*Coordinate with IT or web development teams for updates and troubleshooting
Email Marketing
*Develop and manage email marketing campaigns, including newsletters and special announcements
Monitoring and Analytics
*Track and report on the effectiveness of digital communication activities using analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics)
*Conduct regular assessments of digital communication strategies and recommend improvements
Collaboration and Coordination
*Collaborate with other team members, including communications, graphic design and program staff, to align communication strategies
*Participate in meetings and provide input on communication planning
Training and Support
*Provide guidance and training to staff on digital communication tools and practices
*Stay updated on industry trends and emerging platforms
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree Public Health, Business Administration, Health Science Administration or other related field, with two years experience in community engagement, community organizing, and project coordination and implementation.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.
Preferred:
Three years social media management experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of fundamentals of design imaging
Skilled in usage of social media (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, Linkedln, etc.)
Skilled in basic graphic design and content creation
Ability to perform basic website editing
Experience with photography and videography equipment, basic video and audio editing
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (ex. Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
Proficiency in Adobe Suite/Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PremierePro, etc.)
Ability to manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and be flexible to varying program hours
Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds in a team-setting
Experience with create content for various marketing efforts
