Department Information

Indiana University (IU) Innovates serves as a front door for IU entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs to access the programs, people, departments, and resources that support students, faculty, and staff who wish to start companies, commercialize innovation, and/or explore entrepreneurship activities.

The entrepreneurship ambassadors are responsible for creating content for other students and for the university community at large that promotes IU Innovates, affiliated programming, and entrepreneurial activity on campus in general, and informs current IU entrepreneurs of events, available resources, and opportunities. The ambassadors help to further the mission of IU Innovates to advance IU entrepreneurs, and are part of IU Innovates' broader outreach strategy.

As the content writer, you will be responsible for writing engaging stories, summaries, and notifications that will be used in flyers, social media posts, and a weekly newsletter, among other outlets.

Job Summary

Creates written content for the purpose of promoting events, opportunities, and resources related to IU Innovates in particular and to entrepreneurship in general in Bloomington, Indiana.Provides written pieces showcasing the work of entrepreneurs at IU, including the clients of the Sparklab incubation program.Plans and coordinates the release of written content within a newsletter, under the direction of the Incubation Program Manager.Attends weekly meetings and coordinates with other Entrepreneurship Ambassadors, as well as the Incubation Program Manager and Entrepreneurship Program Manager, to create and release content in a cohesive, regular way as part of IU Innovates' broader outreach strategy.Leads by example as an ambassador and connector for IU's entrepreneurship community, staffing the space, providing a welcoming experience to the network of people and resources that make up IU's entrepreneurial ecosystem.Serves as a first point of contact and informational resource to all faculty, staff, students and visitors regarding the IU Innovates program.Performs administrative duties as needed in support of the IU Innovates program.Provides administrative support to executives, exercising confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.Utilizes business software applications to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, etc.Receives, screens, and directs incoming visitors and inquiries promptly, courteously, and accurately.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

RequiredCurrently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.WORK EXPERIENCE

PreferredExperience with community-building, mentoring, or customer service environment.Experience with content writing.Experience as a member of IU Innovates or other student entrepreneurship experience.SKILLS

RequiredPossesses excellent communication skills.Coordinates well with all stakeholders in all settings.Ability to work independently and meet weekly deadlines.PreferredFamiliarity with entrepreneurship.

Working Conditions / Demands

This position is very active and requires moving about the workspace and ascending/descending stairs or ladders. The role frequently moves objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. The role requires the ability to position self to move at lower levels. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

The person in this position must be available to work shifts that are usually between 2-5 hours, totaling 6-15 hours per week scheduled primarily during building hours.

There will also be events that will occasionally need to be staffed. Schedule will vary week to week.
