General Summary

We're looking to hire a talented and energetic marketing and communications professional who can promote our programs and services in both traditional and emerging platforms.

In coordination with other staff and under supervision of the Recreation Administrative and Marketing Supervisor, the Recreation Marketing Coordinator designs and creates promotional and informational materials in various formats for departmental programs, services, and events consistent with City brand and graphic standards.Please attach a digital work portfolio which should include 3-6 social media posts and 1-2 writing samples!

The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department serves a diverse population of approximately 31,000 residents. The Recreation division employees 21 full time staff, and over 150 part time staff and manages the following community amenities and related programming:The Bob L. Burger Recreation Center

Works to reach target audiences, increase customer interaction, and grow participation by creating customized, effective marketing.

Identifies, interprets and assesses social media trends and develops measurable objectives to evaluate the success of marketing strategies and communications tools.

Creates, implements, promotes, and monitors information about the department and its programs and services across various social media channels, and the website.

May attend programs and events to take photos and videos suitable for social media posting that are on-brand and on-trend.

Writes or edits content that communicates important information to the community and establishes a unique and recognizable voice for the department.Creates regular electronic newsletters.

Serves as a website editor helping to maintain the department's web pages, intranet or other web-based platforms as needed.

Presents a consistent visual identity to distinguish the Recreation Department within the City and local region.

Assists with the creation of the three-times annually created Recreation and Senior Center Activity Guide.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

Considerable knowledge of current practices, procedures, strategies, and communications techniques, marketing, branding, media relations, and community/public relations. Working knowledge of the principles of project and relationship management. Working knowledge of personal computers and software programs (word processing, spreadsheet, social media, Adobe, and database programs.) Ability to quickly learn new software programs, including RecTrac. Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of budgeting and resource management.SKILL:

Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities; work under pressure, and prioritize and adhere to deadlines, even under stressful or difficult situations. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate on shared projects and files. Skill in understanding and responding to customer needs and resolving problems.ABILITY:

Ability to exercise considerable initiative and sound judgment; work effectively under tight deadlines; manage projects independently; ability to comprehend, develop, articulate, and implement conceptual ideas or strategies; coordinate and design promotional materials and interact with a broad range of people to accomplish assigned tasks and projects effectively. Ability to file all shared documents and organize and maintain shared project files. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team as a member and a leader.TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, graphic design, communications or other related field required. Certification with Google Adwords preferred.

EXPERIENCE

:

Three (3) year professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, website, and graphic designer any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the functions of the position.

Special Requirements
