Communications Specialist

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (UPMC Hillman) is seeking a Communications Specialist to join their research communications team. UPMC Hillman is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, supporting basic, translational, population, and clinical research.The candidate will work with the Director of Communications to support research communications functions for UPMC Hillman Cancer Center including:manage updates to the UPMC Hillman Research website (hillmanresearch.upmc.edu)support the creation and maintenance of a cancer center SharePoint site for internal communicationscreate and deploy cancer-focused content for UPMC Hillman's social media channels on a regular basis and maintain a social content calendar - experience with Sprout Social is a plusassist in creating and deploying written content about scientific research for the blog, newsletters, etc.assist in web, documentation, and staffing needs for major cancer center eventscreate and edit videos with Hillman researchersThe candidate will work in a highly matrixed environment, collaborating closely with marketing and communications colleagues at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh. The successful candidate will be a creative team player with a can-do mind set with a willingness to learn new skills and problem solve on the job.A Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or biology is preferred as well as 1-2 years' experience working in a communications role. Experience writing and editing articles as well as experience in healthcare and/or academic research institutions is preferred.

Job Summary

Develops routine web and print content and marketing. Creates varied presentations for communications team and diverse marketing materials for marketing team. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains University brand and style.

Essential Functions

The ability to work in a highly matrixed environment. Strong communication. Interpersonal, and organizational skills. Must demonstrate the ability to multi-task, prioritize to meet deadlines, and attention to details and accuracy.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
