Library Publishing Specialist

This position is based in the University Library System's Digital Scholarship Services unit and is responsible for supporting the operations of the library's publishing services, which currently consist mainly of the following and which are expected to evolve. The library maintains an Open Access journal publishing service utilizing the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, as well as a user-created digital collections and exhibit service, using the Omeka.net platform. This position supports the library's publishing clients on the editorial operations of publishing services, contributes to efficient internal service operations, conducts training and outreach in support of current and future endeavors in library publishing, and creates and maintains service documentation and records. The position reports to the Scholarly Publishing Librarian.The position requires excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, and highly effective problem-solving skills. The position also requires the ability to learn, teach, and stay current with the features and workflows of the publishing platforms in use. Relevant experience in documentation, training, document workflow management, and/or scholarly publishing is preferred.As a member of the ULS team, the Library Specialist is expected to recognize, respect, and work effectively with diverse individuals and groups in all aspects of their work, and to proactively maintain a work environment that fosters equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Job Summary

Supports the library by providing trainings and outreach that correlate to overall plans and strategies. Assists with various library programs and initiatives across functions of administration, planning, development, and evaluation.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include providing user training, consulting, problem-solving and documentation for a variety of software types and services.

Incumbent must be capable of computer-human interaction, and must be able to communicate effectively through the written and spoken word. Incumbent must be able to speak in front of groups of people.

Physical Effort

Position is not physically demanding, however, the incumbent may be expected to operate the computer mouse, keyboard and monitor for long periods of time (up to 4 hours).
