The Head of the Henry Clay Frick Fine Arts Library Library is a faculty librarian in the University Library System (ULS), reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning. The position serves as the head of the Frick Fine Arts Library, with responsibility for the library's operations, services, collections, and staff. The position also facilitates library services and collection development for Arts and Humanities disciplines across the ULS and serves as a liaison to the History of Art & Architecture Department and Studio Arts Department.
Responsibilities:The incumbent performs a range of project management, leadership, and supervisory duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

Lead the strategic development, design, delivery, and assessment of arts research services at the Frick Fine Arts Library, coordinating across units in the ULS.*
Maintain a general liaison relationship with faculty members and students in the History of Art and Architecture and Studio Arts Departments. This includes proactively building relationships and partnerships with faculty, staff, and students in the assigned departments, and staying current with user needs.*
Design and implement instruction and reference support for faculty and students, providing expert guidance on using art, architecture, and museum studies resources across multiple interfaces and formats.*
Lead the development of experiential learning, curricular integration, outreach, and partnerships of the unit, incorporating visual materials into courses across the University.*
Supervise and mentor all full-time personnel and graduate student assistants in the Frick Fine Arts Library in accordance with ULS and University policies and procedures and consultation with appropriate ULS personnel.*
Collaborate with the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Quality Assurance and other collections working group leaders to develop, implement, and maintain ULS general collections in assigned disciplinary and other areas. This responsibility includes convening and leading an Arts & Humanities collections working group, contributing to the development of methodologies for data analyses, evaluation of new resources, resource trials, and renewals, and monitoring trends in Open Access publishing trends. This work will include the development and application of assessment mechanisms for ULS general collections to inform decision-making.*
Actively develop and maintain physical spaces at the Frick Fine Arts Library to ensure an inclusive, creative, engaging user experience, collaborating with library colleagues and building partners as needed.*
Provide oversight for circulation, fulfillment, and resource-sharing services at the Frick Fine Arts Library, in coordination with circulation, fulfillment, and resource-sharing units in the ULS.*
Develop and implement responsive collection strategies for acquiring both circulating and rare materials, assessing use, and identifying areas of growth.
Librarians at the University of Pittsburgh are members of the faculty and are expected to demonstratecontinuous professional development in addition to performing their specific responsibilities. Thisexpectation includes such activities as participating in and contributing to departmental, library, andcampus-wide committees or working groups as well as the profession at a regional, national, and/orinternational level, maintaining a broad awareness of current and emerging issues that affect theirdisciplines and areas of expertise, participating in relevant publishing and presentation opportunities, and pursuing knowledge of professional trends and developments that can be applied to evolving research, services, and collections. Approximately 10% of the librarian's time should be directed toward such activities and will be included as part of the annual evaluation.
Specifically, the incumbent in this position is expected to:*
Keep abreast of and contribute as appropriate to current developments in the profession, especially as they relate to art librarianship.*
Contribute to the profession through publications, presentations, teaching, and other professional activities.*
Seek out appropriate roles in professional associations, research, and/or publication on the regional, national, and international levels.*
Participate actively in ULS and campus-wide working groups and committees, as appropriate.*
The incumbent is also expected to contribute to the University community or the local community through service that utilizes their professional expertise.
Required Qualifications:A successful candidate for the Head of the Henry Clay Frick Fine Arts Library Library will have the following required qualifications:Master's degree from ALA-accredited library and information science program or another relevant advanced degreeAt least two years of relevant work experience, including a demonstrated commitment to the arts. Experience may be in a library or another setting related to research or instruction involving arts and/or visual culture.*
Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills*
A record of professional engagement and contribution
Preferred Qualifications:*
Prior managerial leadership experience and a desire to serve in a managerial leadership capacity*
Undergraduate or graduate degree in an art-related field, e.g., History of Art, Architecture, Studio Arts, Museum Studies*
Experience providing art, architecture, and/or visual research services in a higher education setting*
Evidence of strong commitment to user-centered library service and the ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing environment with a culturally diverse population.*
Proven track record of cultural competence, understanding, and working with diverse racial, ethnic, religious, academic, socioeconomic, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity communities.
