General Information:

The College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE) seeks a talented and creative student graphic designer to join our team for the 2024 academic year.

This position plays a crucial role in contributing to our visual identity and brand presence. As a Graphic Design student, you'll be responsible for creating visually appealing and impactful designs across various platforms and mediums. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience, showcase your creativity, enhance your design skills, and build a portfolio in a professional setting while contributing to meaningful projects within the college.

HoursApproximately 7-10 hours per week with flexible scheduling.

*This employment opportunity may be compatible with the internship expectations of the JMU SMAD major.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the marketing team to design graphics for a range of materials, including social media graphics, flyers, posters, banners, event invitations, and promotional materials.• Develop creative concepts and translate them into visually appealing designs that effectively communicate key messages and engage the target audience.• Ensure all designs adhere to the branding guidelines of CISE and James Madison University (JMU) to maintain brand consistency.• Assist in the creation and maintenance of design templates for different platforms to streamline the design process.• Adapt designs for various formats and media, ensuring optimal visual impact across different channels.• Stay updated on design trends, techniques, and software to continually enhance design skills.• Collaborate with team members to review and provide feedback on design projects, ensuring high-quality and cohesive visual assets and meeting deadlines, even while working remotely.• Utilize a project management system to ensure efficient workflow.

Qualifications:

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)• Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and layout• Creativity and originality in design approach, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting, adapting to different project requirements and feedback• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas and concepts visually and verbally• Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines consistently

Conditions of Employment:

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
