Anniversary Season, Metropolis has become one of Chicagoland’s leading venues for quality entertainment and professional theater, captivating over 70,000 patrons per year. Metropolis was awarded 2024’s Best of the Best – Live Theater by the Daily Herald. Metropolis’ programming includes a thriving Main Stage subscription series, an extensive collection of concerts, comedy, and cabaret, and enriching educational productions and performances by its revered School of Performing Arts.Each year, the School of Performing Arts educates over 2,500 students and offers group classes, individual voice and instrumental instruction, seasonal camps, and theatrical productions. MPAC’s Community Engagement initiatives bring the arts to seniors as well as individuals with special and different needs.The Interim Artistic Director is a short-term appointment and will be responsible for collaborating with MPAC leadership and stakeholders in helping develop and implement the organization’s immediate artistic endeavors.The Artistic Director works in close collaboration and partnership with the Executive Director, Director of Production, Director of Artistic Operations, and reports to MPAC’s Board of Directors.Key ResponsibilitiesParticipate in 2025/26 season planning discussions and help lead the effort in securing show rights.Manage 2024/25 show budgets while engaged in the position.Strategize and collaborate with our talent buyer to book talent for the Metropolis Presents series.Serves as Lead Producer for Main Stage shows while engaged.Work with the education department in implementing collaborations.Collaborate with the Casting Director and Artistic Operations Director for future casting efforts.Collaborate with the Board of Directors and administrative leadership in attaining production quality goals within budget while displaying artistic excellence across all processes.Collaborate with the Executive Director in creating a cohesive season that fulfills the organization’s mission.Work with the Executive Director to build new show budgets, and evaluate overall profitability of produced and presented shows.QualificationsBachelors in Fine Arts, Masters preferred5 years of professional experience in show directionExperience as an Artistic Director is a plusExceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with a broad range of staff, performers, and invested parties.Strong commitment to organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion.Proven ability to lead and develop staff members.Ability to interact effectively with a board of directors.
