Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. ​​Within Azure Data, the Data Integration (DI) Design team builds data gravity on the Microsoft Cloud. Massive volumes of data are generated – not just from transactional systems of record, but also from the world around us. Our data integration products – Azure Data Factory and Power Query make it easy for customers to bring in, clean, shape, and join data, to extract intelligence.​

We are looking to bring a Principal Product Designer to the ​​Data Integration (DI) Design team. As a Principal Product Designer for Data Integration, you'll join our mission is to design high-impact, high-quality, unified data integration experiences that educate, empower and delight our expanding range of users. You will accelerate the product vision through design thought leadership and effective communication across disciplines. You will define, create, and evolve design patterns and interaction models across large scale platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and the wider Microsoft data ecosystem, for products such as Power Query and Data Factory. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the team’s delivery, documentation, and evolution of innovative end-to-end experiences through thoughtful design, leadership, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Identify opportunities and make plans. You will estimate and create individual work delivery schedules across teams, as well as define, influence, and prioritize product plans. Utilizing a variety of perspectives, you will lead ideation of solutions for improving complex products and design end-to-end prototypes.

Deliver, and set a bar for, quality. You will create wireframes, journey maps, and other elements to support interaction design. You’ll grow to lead product UX improvements by embracing user insights, creating interaction models while acting as a liaison between users and products.

Drive for success. You will interact with Engineering and perform QAs to ensure quality while showing the ability to challenge design limitations. You’ll also produce visual designs and mentor others on their creation.

Lead and bring others along. You will communicate with cross-disciplinary teams across all stages of design and development. Your storytelling and communication efforts will create clarity and build energy for vision and direction across stakeholders.

Mentor and inspire. As an expert and leader in the craft of design, you will work with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define product features. You’ll collaborate with your team to deliver product design results while also providing guidance to product designers.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design

OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design

OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

​​6+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.

Deep expertise with human-centered Interaction Design.

Experience leading 0-1 product design.

Solid communications skills and the ability to influence.

Data experience is very nice to have.

Abililty and experience mentoring designers.

Experience advocating for design thinking, effectively influencing design outcomes, discovering problems and tackling them.

Proven track record of collaborating with engineering, product managers, content writers, researchers and more.

Experience with diving into research and leveraging research for design impact.

Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
