Geographic Information System (GIS) Professional

Role DescriptionThis is a 12+ months contract hybrid role for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Professional located in Norfolk, VA, with the flexibility for some remote work. The GIS Professional will be responsible for daily tasks related to geographic data analysis, map creation, and spatial problem-solving.Must haves:Security clearance: Must hold an active DOD secret (or above) clearance.Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.Minimum Experience: At least 10 years of applicable experience with the position description requirements.Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsUS citizenExperience with spatial databases and data analysisKnowledge of cartography and geographyEffective communication and collaboration skillsJob Requirements:Develop, maintain, and update Geographic Information System (GIS) databases; obtain data from city, state, federal and private sources; receive and review maps, land parcel records and engineering documents.Identify pertinent GIS information and convert data into proper GIS formats. Ensure accuracy and completeness; enter data into databases; and update essential GIS layers and databases.Create a variety of maps and GIS related documents.Provide expertise in GIS hardware and software products.Provide technical support to GIS users.In addition to the position description, the Level IV must have the ability to translate business needs into enterprise program and solution architecture recommendations.Nice to have:Relevant certifications in GIS are a plus
