The Developer Division Design Studio is looking for a **Principal Design Manager** to join our team and lead design across Azure Developer Experience offerings (API Management, Logic Apps, Azure Cache for Redis, etc). The mission of the Developer Division is to empower every developer and their team to achieve more.In this role you will work on complex problems for sophisticated customers who care deeply about both productivity and ease-of-use. You will lead a group of user experience designers working on a variety of developer experiences in Azure. You will partner closely with your manager and your peers, ensuring a consistent design point of view for our customers, and a One Microsoft user experience. Our ideal candidate has experience in the full life cycle of digital design, from envisioning to concepting to prototyping to execution.Your responsibilities will involve leading and supporting the team by modeling, coaching, and caring for them as individuals and designers. Additionally, you’ll be expected to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (product management, development, user research, et al), identifying opportunities for design, imagining new possibilities, and bringing those ideas to life through engaging digital experiences.

Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.**Responsibilities**+ Defining and driving responsibilities for individual team members and across the team.+ Evaluating and hiring multi-disciplinary talent to build and grow the team while creating an invigorating and positive work environment and culture.+ Driving deep engagements with partner teams on product design while monitoring and holding product teams accountable to recommendations.+ Applying and communicating a solid rationale for all design decisions.+ Creating guidelines, best practices, and repeatable design patterns.+ Lead inclusive and accessible design strategy for developer experiences.+ Lead multidisciplinary teams through the design process, from vision building to prototyping through execution and implementation.+ Co-design measurement, learning, and optimization strategies with partners that will enable the team to build solutions for long-term success.+ Create solutions that address a range of challenges, translating user needs and real-world constraints into valuable, effective digital experiences.+ Create and/or lead the creation of prototypes of different levels of fidelity to help determine design direction for a project.+ Construct information architecture, interaction models, customer flows and journeys, schematics, and interaction design that bring new ideas to life.+ Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, bringing depth of design knowledge to partners across a wide range of research approaches. These approaches include Hypothesis Progression Framework (HPF), generative research, rapid iterative loops of prototyping, user feedback, and qualitative/quantitative studies, all to drive human-centered design.+ Connect with customers, including software developers and IT professionals, in collaboration with cross-functional partner teams to get inspired around systemic challenges, articulate user needs, and prototype throughout the design process.+ Identify opportunities for design collaborations between product and feature groups – connecting dots for seamless system design.+ Embody our culture (icrosoft.com/v2/global/en/culture) and values (icrosoft.com/en-us/about/corporate-values)**Qualifications****Required/Minimum Qualifications:**+ Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Expereince, Interaction Design or related field AND 8+ years xperience working in product or service design+ OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Expereince, Interaction Design or related field AND 6+ years xperience working in product or service design+ OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)+ 3+ years of people management experience.**Additional/Preferred Qualifications:**+ 7+ years or relevant experience in product design, a design consultancy, agency, or other environment where you’ve worked on multidisciplinary design teams.+ Adept at synthesizing data and distilling complexity, with exceptional storytelling ability in multiple mediums.+ Experience with implementing accessible, inclusive design.+ Experience working at the intersecttion of social innovation, business, and interaction design.+ Demonstrated fluency in the human-centered design process from qualitative research and synthesis to ideation, prototyping, and implementation.+ An understanding and ability to articulate foundational UX laws.+ Thorough understanding of layout, typography, and color+ A knack for what design and innovation can do, especially where it can improve the lives of developers.+ Cross functional partnership skills, with experience educating, partnering, and influencing product teams.+ Ability to work well in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, start-up team environment with demonstrable skill at sticking to commitments, delivering to dates, and moving quickly without rushing.+ Ability to work independently under tight deadlines, while maintaining excellent communication.+ Demonstrable skills in standard tools of the trade (e.g. Adobe CC, Figma, and other industry standard apps), showing fluency in UX/UI tools and the ability to convey concepts through videos, wireframes, flows, storyboards, and mockups, et al.+ A current and up-to-date online portfolio.Product Design M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
