About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. Responsibilities Utilize techniques such as fumigating, spraying, and dusting to apply pesticides for pest issues. Apply formulas in accordance with guidelines to ensure proper balance of pesticides. Analyzes data such as pesticide toxicity, chemical solutions, physical characteristics, life-cycles, and feeding habits of a wide variety of pests in order to properly treat infestations problems. Conduct troubleshooting inspections of assigned areas such as facilities, grounds, drainage ditches, and marsh and water areas for pest infestation. Calibrate equipment to ensure proper application based on area to be treated, weather conditions and type of chemical being used. Apply safety procedures when disposing of pesticide and toxic chemicals used for duties Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pest Controller (Direct Hire Authority) ~ without more than normal supervision. I can perform duties such as 1) utilizing resources such as blueprints or building drawings to locate areas to treat; 2) determining treatment methods to include chemicals, pesticides, or baits to control pest infestation; AND 3) assessing environmental factors to calibrate equipment such as sprayers or dusters. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Duties require incumbent to lift and carry chemical solutions and equipment weighing up to 15-44 pounds for extended periods. Required to lift and handle material weighing over 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. Required to work in cramped and inconvenient surrounding. Duties require standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time. Moves furniture and equipment as required to complete work assignments. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside, outside and underneath buildings which may be close, smelly, dirty, damp, dusty, and with limited ventilation. Occasionally walks in swampy, aquatic and forested areas. Required to wear protective clothing, respirators, goggles or face shields for extended periods of time. Exposed to toxic vapors, liquids and dusts. Exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, bruises, insect bites and stings. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
