Summary This position is located in the Digitization Support Services Section, Collections Digitization Division, Digital Services Directorate, Discovery And Preservation Services. The position description number for this position is 455857. The incumbent of this position will work a flexitime work schedule. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustment for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. This is a supervisory, non-bargaining unit position. Responsibilities The position serves as a Supervisory Library Technician in the Digital Support Services (DSS) Section, Collections Digitization Division (CDD), Digital Services Directorate (DSD), Discovery & Preservation Services (DPS), within the Library Collections Services Group (LCSG) at the Library of Congress (LC) and reports to a Section Head in CDD. CDD provides leadership, support, and coordination for the digitization of the Library’s collections. The division’s activities include direct digitization of collections, execution of digitization contracts, formulation and dissemination of digitization specifications, analysis and development of workflow processes that help improve digitization efficiency and standards, and the analysis and reformatting of endangered Library materials. Supervises a group of employees performing work up to the GS-08 level. Provides administrative and technical supervision relative to the staff supervised. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Observes workers’ performance and demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. In consultation with the Section Head, coordinates the details involved in digitization projects, defining tasks/assignments. Identifies, develops, and implements options for improving the performance of the plans/projects. Communicates orally and in writing to both technical and non-technical staff concerning the management of collection digitization activities. Works with staff to ensure that digitization projects are completed according to section and division standards. In coordination with the Section Head and other managers in the division, plans, schedules, coordinates, carries out, and monitors the effectiveness of approved digitization projects. Serves as a key point of contact for consultation with staff across the division and other divisions on routine digitization projects. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff at multiple levels throughout the service unit and across the Library. Provides guidance in the resolution of collections digitization problems or issues affecting digitization of collections. Provides advice and training to section staff. Communicates orally and in writing to both technical and nontechnical staff concerning collections digitization projects and programs. Works with search requests that contain inaccurate or incomplete information. Uses search tools in a variety of online databases that have different search interfaces and protocols. Follows applicable instructions concerning the recognition and comparison of dates, authors, titles, filenames, directory structures and other conventions and develops new procedures. Creates and updates data in in-house databases for digitization project production. Ensures that supervised staff accurately use these tools. Qualifications Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.
