We’re looking for a UX Writer 2 who’s driven by empathy and knows how to translate technical language into friendly, conversational UX. You love to simplify complex ideas using the written word. You understand what makes a product successful, focusing on the human need that underlies the work. You’re a linguist: you’re creative, intuitive, collaborative, and confident in your expertise.

Responsibilities

Writing

Applies a foundational understanding of the customer experience and user interface guidelines and principles when developing content to meet user needs.

Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., engineering, research, design, product) to understand products/content areas, multiple audiences, and voice and tone of the content to write for optimal experiences.

Participates in co-design sessions to apply to solutions with customers to further inform content design.

Applies localization, compliance, public relations (PR), and accessibility best practices and guidelines to content.

UX

Review

and Stakeholder Collaboration

Applies editorial judgment and data-driven insights to shape and maintain content for one or more areas (e.g., for a content set, reviewing, improving, editing, or removing content; for a design review, reviewing and critiquing interaction design and user-experience [UX] text).

Ensures content message is clear, concise, and aligned to a larger communications strategy.

Collaborates with relevant cross-team and cross-project stakeholders (e.g., engineers, product managers, marketing, writers, designers, researchers) to understand and align content with project goals.

Customer Research

Identifies and assists in determining research opportunities with cross-functional stakeholders to apply customer-driven insights.

Learns about and applies information gathered from research to inform and assist with designing content strategy in line with customer and Microsoft needs and mutual goals.

Content Strategy

Assists to identify points in the customer journey where content is appropriate for customers within specific audiences to meet customer and Microsoft needs.

Helps develop content plan that bridges surfaces, aligns with product strategy, and translates into content tasks in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Content Operations

Executes on processes for completing, delivering, and distributing writing workflows with alignment to a larger overall plan (e.g., editorial processes, user-experience [UX] pattern guidelines, terminology lists, voice, tone).

Works with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, legal, compliance, design, marketing) to ensure completion of writing workflows.

Innovation and Best Practices

Provides feedback to team members and/or cross-team stakeholders using foundational content area knowledge to improve and simplify processes and workflows to better serve partners/customers or internal stakeholders.

Stays updated on industry trends and adjusts the content strategy as needed.

Evangelizes value of content to cross-functional stakeholders. Collaborates with cross-organizational writers on key initiatives (e.g., style guides, terminology efforts, shared text across products).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

1+ year(s) proven writing or content design experience AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related field

OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven writing or content design experience (e.g., writing samples) AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related field

Writing IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
