Job Summary:

The Director of Design Innovation (DDI) pursues lucrative, new business opportunities that lay outside of our comfort zone. Partnering skillfully with our technology-focused development teams, the DDI represents the consumer’s voice using research and data. The DDI’s priority is to chase prospective projects for the medium-to long-term future, helping to optimize and evolve our product portfolio. Skillfully considering business potential, the DDI works closely with senior leaders in Design, Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Consumer Insights, and others to turn signals from across a broad pool of ideas and sources into testable proposals. As a product development expert, the DDI manages the creation of concept stimuli and prototypes used for evaluation, iteration, and consumer testing. With a high degree of autonomy and self-direction, the DDI regularly reviews concepts and suggestions with senior leadership to pursue a swift path to decision making based on consumer feedback data. The DDI’s sphere of influence is flexible, following opportunities ranging from products to software, from retail experience to services, and others. This role evangelizes and embodies Belkin’s strategic vision of leading with user research and listening to the voice of the consumer.

Regularly conferences with other innovation-focused team members and groups to recognize when action should be initiated.Organizes and conducts brainstorm sessions, synthesizes findings, and disseminates the results.Follows up on brainstorms to prototype, test and evaluate results as warranted.Generates best-practice Consumer Insights and User Experience testing methods to generate valuable data re. acceptance and opportunities.Leverages a variable team of contributors from research, business, finance, engineering, marketing, creative, corp. dev & external resources.Includes current areas of business, as well as new Sandboxes/Greenfields.Presents effectively to leadership team to describe results of testing.Further Responsibilities

Provokes thoughtful discussion, and proposes solutions for future-proofing our strategies to anticipate changing consumer needs and market dynamics.Collaborates closely with GPM and SBU leaders to concept, review, trial, and develop business opportunity data.Collaborates with Legal team to pursue potential new IP when applicable.Advises and partners with PM team for PVP documentation, identifying viable use cases, design and UX goals.Supports communication to the organization to inform and inspire ongoing innovation efforts.Supports evolution of Belkin’s best practices and processes around Consumer insights and Design Thinking application.Drives progress toward increased customer satisfaction, retention, and accelerated revenue growth.Requirements

Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in an associated field (e.g., Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering).15 years of proven experience in physical consumer product development, engineering and UX processes, iterative product development and prototyping.5 years of proven experience with software UI and UX development.Exceptional degree of understanding of consumer testing and research processes.What You’re Getting Into We’ve got big collaborative spaces for your big ideas, so bring an open mind and leave your suit in the closet. Factors such as geographic location, academic credentials, relevant experience, and specific knowledge, skills and abilities will influence the actual salary offered. In addition to a competitive market-based salary, compensation also includes a performance-based bonus, and in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
