We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with three labor unions representing more than half of our employees.Scope: The Director of Digital Marketing at Sierra Club will spearhead the digital fundraising efforts, ensuring their integration within the organization's broader multichannel ecosystem that includes advocacy, campaigning, fundraising, and membership initiatives. This senior role involves leading a team of digital fundraisers and collaborating closely with the Website and Digital Organizing teams, along with other departments, to develop effective email and mobile strategies. The goal is to meet fundraising, engagement, and brand objectives while expanding and maintaining the health of our supporter base. The Director will integrate digital fundraising into a cohesive member and supporter experience, aligning with organizational priorities, and consistently testing and evaluating digital engagement strategies to maximize impact.This position requires senior-level experience in managing digital teams by a systems thinker who is attuned to both online and offline trends. The ideal candidate will be an impact-oriented leader capable of processing large amounts of information to build actionable plans and drive results. They must be highly organized, an excellent communicator, and able to motivate and inspire their team to achieve the organization’s goals.This position directly relates to the 24 hour news cycle which will sometimes require weeknight and weekend hours.Job activities include but are not limited to:

Oversee Sierra Club’s Digital Marketing Strategy:

This includes managing email messaging, CRM platforms, SMS platforms, digital advertising, online fundraising, and list growth. The role requires developing and executing an integrated digital marketing strategy that aligns with the broader constituent experience, ensuring cohesive and impactful communication across all digital channels.Direct Email and Mobile Strategy:

Develop and implement strategies to engage and educate our audience through timely and coordinated updates that reflect Sierra Club’s mission and brand guidelines. This involves creating compelling content that tells a holistic story about Sierra Club’s work and ensuring all communications are consistent and engaging.Hire, Coordinate Staff, and Manage Budget:

Lead the hiring process for the digital marketing team and manage the budget for email, SMS, and other digital touch points. Provide ongoing support and resources to staff, serving as a senior writing coach and copy editor, and delivering actionable feedback to improve messaging and develop a unified voice across the organization.Enhance Digital Engagement and Performance:

Monitor and improve the quality, activity, and value of Sierra Club’s digital file by tracking deliverability, engagement, and conversion rates. Implement solutions for improvement and collaborate with various teams to grow the digital file and enhance cross-channel engagement through both paid and non-paid acquisition tactics.Lead Cross-Platform and Rapid Response Strategies:

Work with digital and communications teams to ensure real-time, quality content across all platforms, optimizing for user and mobile-friendliness. Act as the digital lead for rapid response mobilization during time-sensitive moments, manage email and mobile calendaring, audience segmentation, and a/b testing, and collaborate with analysts to track and report on performance, using data to inform strategy.Other special projects and management initiatives as identified and assigned.The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills, experience and competencies:

Demonstrated Management Experience:

Proven ability to lead diverse and high-performing teams, managing large budgets exceeding $1 million. This involves strategic planning, resource allocation, and fostering a collaborative environment that promotes high productivity and morale among team members.Email and Mass Texting Program Management:

Experience in growing and managing large-scale email and mass texting programs. This includes designing engaging email and mobile content, optimizing personalization and inbox placement, implementing welcome and re-engagement tactics, and integrating online advertising for maximum reach and impact.Campaign Evaluation and Analysis:

Expertise in evaluating and analyzing campaigns, engagement pathways, and acquisition investments. This skill involves conducting comparative Lifetime Value (LTV) analysis to guide investment decisions, testing strategies, and program management to achieve specific outcomes, ensuring the health and growth of the digital file.Excellent Writing and Communication Skills:

Strong writing skills with the ability to draft content quickly and effectively, translating complex ideas into everyday language and telling emotionally compelling stories. This skill includes cultivating best practices within teams to connect with diverse audiences and inspire action, ensuring consistent and impactful communication.Digital Ad Strategy and CRM Expertise:

Proficiency in digital ad strategy and managing constituent opt-in pathways and journeys, with a broad understanding of digital tools and technology in the nonprofit sector. Familiarity with platforms like Salesforce MarketingCloud and Mobile Commons is beneficial, along with the ability to cultivate partnerships and foster connections to enhance digital programs and inform strategy.Committed to evolution.

The Sierra Club offers a competitive salary package commensurate with skills and experience plus excellent benefits that include medical, dental, and vision coverage, and a retirement savings 401(k) plan.This is a category 3,exempt, non-represented, managerial position.Sierra Club values the expertise and talents of foreign nationals.
