The Slover will support a thriving downtown by encouraging tourism, providing resources for entrepreneurs, and housing the downtown branch library at The Slover. The Slover generates revenue through event rentals, visitor activities, and cafe commissions.Department Hiring Salary Range: $41,775 - $68,093Essential FunctionsEssential functions include but are not limited to:+ Provides customer service by assisting patrons with basic reference questions, providing assistance with computers and equipment, and recommending reading material.+ Assists with collection development by reading professional reviews and selected materials, removing outdated books, and making recommendations for new materials.+ Delivers programs that are within budget and meet the goals of the department.+ Plans and coordinates events by selecting and organizing materials, distributing promotional materials, and decorating and setting up displays.+ Plans and coordinates support services for the program area by supervising and training staff, collection development and budget monitoring.+ Provides quality control over the classification of materials for the system; coordinates work flow and time management for program area; orders and distributes processing supplies for the department and branches.Education/ExperienceWork requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.Three years of experience in library, research or related services, including supervisory and/or management experience.Additional Information & Requirements+ Valid Driver's license or Commercial Driver's license may be required depending on assignment.Working Hours: This position is up to 20 hours per week. Workdays and hours will vary depending on organizational needs. The facility will be open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and 12-4 p.m. on Sunday.This position will require flexibility to work weekend and evening schedules.+ Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.+ Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.+ Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.+ RetirementIf you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
