We are working with a leading main contractor with a turnover of circa £850m and a strong presence across the data centre, life science and mission critical sectors who are looking for a MEP design manager to join their business to work on a sizable 68MW data centre in Newport, Wales. The project has an overall build value of £330m across 3 phases and is due to run for 3 years. Reporting directly to an engineering director and working alongside the MEP lead you will be responsible for liaising with external design consultants, internal stakeholders and MEP subcontractors to oversee and co-ordinate design processes at all stages of the RIBA cycle and ensure successful handover to delivery teams. They are looking to engage with people capable of leading a team or taking control of particular elements of the services packages as part of a design team.
Responsibilities:Ensuring the design management procedure is being followed and implemented as appropriate on the projects. This would include production and maintenance of the DRM, design programme, RFI schedule, MIDP, (in conjunction with the CDE), IRS, statutory condition trackers, design change and risk trackers and design documentation required to achieve practical completion.Taking ownership of design related items within the tender process or within the construction phase including production of written narrative/presentation material.Having input into the selection of the design team including the production of the design team appointments (consultant and subcontractor) if directly employed or split of responsibility if traditional including DRM, scope, MIDP, programme.Understanding and providing solutions where possible, against the status of ‘strategic design’ items within the tender/construction documents and in line with company procedures including planning, building control/BCAR, third party requirements, brand requirements etc.Ensuring the design recognises all aspects of health & safety, sustainability, and quality related matters.Working with the site team (incl. QS) to consider alternatives design solutions including MMC.Sign off to pay a very attractive salary and an opportunity to join a very notable project from a very early stage. There will be an opportunity to work remotely and in a hybrid capacity at different stages of the life cycle.
