MISSION

The Music & Creative Arts Department exists to inspire, equip, and disciple worshippers and creative-minded people through diverse artistic expressions. Our vision is to empower the North and Central Illinois Division, be a consistent, relevant resource, and be on the forefront of missional engagement through the arts.

OUTCOMES

The North and Central Illinois Division has a strategy to ensure that Musical and Creative arts resources exist to assist in quality worship experiences and discipleship. This strategy will be coordinated and integrated, as well as evaluated on an ongoing basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow the vision of the Music & Creative Arts department as defined by the Director of Music & Creative Arts.Oversee Divisional and Regional Music & Creative Arts Instructors in training, scheduling, lesson planning, program evaluation, and reporting.Assist the Director of Music & Creative Arts in supervision of Summer Divisional Interns.Assist in creating local strategic plans to meet the needs of Corps music and creative arts programming and outreach using measurable outcomes of musical and missional efficiency as defined by the Director.Teach/lead Corps music programs at least two (2) days/nights at the Corps per week or as needed.Facilitate the development of new music and creative arts initiatives and take the lead in those projects as instructed by the Director of Music & Creative Arts.Assist the Director in delivering effective leadership training, harnessing the development of Corps music leaders and musicians.Provide an inspiring and engaging leadership role within the North and Central Illinois Division.Assist with the publicity and implementation of Divisional and Regional Music and Creative Arts events and initiatives including Summer Music Conservatory and NCI Music Camp held at Camp Wonderland and other Creative Arts camps and retreats.Assist the Divisional Director of Music & Creative Arts with organizing, resourcing, and leading Regional Music Schools throughout NCI Division.Assist the Director of Music & Creative Arts with developing web and social media content reflecting the mission and progress of department initiatives.Attend and support Territorial (at the discretion of the Director), Divisional and Regional Music and Arts events.Assist the Director of Music & Creative Arts with the timely maintenance of the instrument inventory and music library.Participate on Divisional Music/Arts committees and others relating to the Mission of The Salvation Army through music and creative arts initiatives.Conduct oneself in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and encourages others to do the same.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Divisional Director of Music & Creative Arts. This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army including consistent interaction with Corps Officers and members. In these contacts, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals and objectives. An evaluation of the level of service provided will also be done, as well as how effectively programming integrates the full mission of The Salvation Army. A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in music or creative arts field, with advanced training or degree desired.3 years experience working with music and creative arts programs, preferably in a Salvation Army leadership setting.Pianist or guitar playing experience preferred.Choral and Worship leadership experience desirable.Proven experience within Corps Music and Arts programs.Willingness to travel by car.Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary, especially in emergent situations.Valid Driver's license/MVR clearance.

Ability to help manage the department's social media on current and future social media platforms.Be responsible for the regular and swift dissemination of department news/events/activities via current social media platforms.An understanding of other expressions of Creative Arts at both a theoretical and practical level.Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in public presentations.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.This individual will keep the Director of Music & Creative Arts informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.In conducting the duties of this position, this individual will accurately represent the mission and teachings of The Salvation Army.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do some physical work related to the duties of this position and be able to lift up to 25 pounds.In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to utilize a PC, and provide musical and creative arts direction and instruction.The work environment for this position includes an office, outdoor environment during camps, with an average of loud noise level.Must be willing to travel throughout the North and Central Illinois Division.Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT

This position has an essential role in fulfilling the full mission of The Salvation Army. Because of the integral nature of this responsibility, an understanding and promotion of The Salvation Army's mission, doctrine, and policies is required as well as active membership in a Salvation Army Corps.
