Job Objective:Responsible for timely and accurate communications within the organization. Implements communication to effectively describe and promote The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions:This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.Create, produce, and manage high quality content for territorial website targeted to members of The Salvation Army in the Midwest.Coordinate and manage digital media channels for Central Connection such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.Collaborate as needed to affect design and functionality of website, maximizing ability, and ensuring a user-friendly presence.Identify and develop viable stories for printed version of Central Connection from other Salvation Army websites and Facebook pages.Write, edit, and proof articles for The Salvation Army publications, especially Central Connection.Report on events for Salvation Army publications.Curate and provide quality images (size, composition, etc.) in support of territorial, divisional, or national publications and projects.Contribute to Teams group for Salvationist writers in Central Territory to inform, inspire and equip them in the ministry of writing and to further develop a fellowship of writers.Assist with planning, coordination, and production of Territorial Writers' Conference.Assist with special projects, reports and other assignments as given by Editorial Director.

Minimum Qualifications:The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education & Certification:BA in journalism, communications, or similar relevant field.

Experience:Five years of work-related experience.

Skills/Abilities:Ability to take initiative and be resourceful, creative, and flexible.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to proactively contribute and accept and follow direction.Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.Ability to speak and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries, and customers.Good organizational and time-management skills.Ability to produce high quality materials.Critical thinking skills.Strong people skills.Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and WordPress.Understand design and photography principles.

Supervisory Responsibility:No supervisory responsibility.

Working Conditions:Work is performed in a typical office environment. Hybrid or remote work a possibility. Full-time position that may require some weekend and evening work and travel.
