About Our Organization
Citizens for ResponsibleEnergy Solutions (CRES)
is a non-profit organization founded in2013 to engage Republican policymakers and the public aboutresponsible, conservative solutions to address our nation’s energy,economic and environmental security while increasing America’scompetitive edge. This work includes building out robust politicaland advocacy operations to support Republican clean energychampions in the U.S. House and Senate. In addition to working withMembers of Congress and legislative staffs to discuss policy ideas,the CRES team members also collaborate with industryrepresentatives and subject matter experts in their mission tobring Americans together to solve our most pressing issues. CRESpolicy goals include:
Reducing globalemissions and growing the U.S. economy.
Enacting policy thatbuilds off historically successful approaches to affordable cleanenergy.
Affordably reducingdomestic emissions in a manner that can be leveragedglobally.
To further its mission, CRES established
CRES Forum
in 2017 to educate thepublic and influence the national conversation around clean energysolutions that are actionable, market-friendly and responsible.CRES Forum provides expert information to key decision makers, sothey are empowered to act in addition to support annual forums andevents, such as National Clean Energy Week, to demonstrate howclean energy policies strengthen the economy, enhance America’svital national security interests and help to preserve ourenvironment for future generations.
Scope of Work:
The Director of Communications reports to the Vice President ofCommunications and works closely with CRES’ communicationsconsultants and CRES’ government relations, external relations andpolicy teams. The Director has an intensive writing portfolio,while overseeing all communications content creation, and ensurescontent flows efficiently throughout the organization and toexternal audiences. In addition, this position managesrelationships with professional communicators on Capitol Hill andwith allied organizations in DC and beyond the Beltway.
Responsibilities:
Direct the team’scontent creation and distribution strategies, serving as the leadwriter
Draft high-level contentsuch as op-eds, executive remarks and talking points, issuemessaging, as well as materials such as the annual report, pollingdecks and briefing documents
Oversee the creation ofcommunications materials such as press releases, newsletters,blogs, videos, social media posts and website updates
Oversee the creation ofmaterials that support the CRES brand
Direct the Capitol HillCommunicators Program, serving as the primary contact to build andmaintain strong relationships to promote CRES messaging on CapitolHill and across states and districts
Manage the CoolConservative Communicators Collaborating on Climate Change withCRES (C6WC) events and programming
Serve as the primarycontact for communications programs at Hill-focused organizationssuch as the Conservative Climate Caucus, the Conservative ClimateFoundation, the Climate Solutions Caucus, the Western Caucus andthe Western Caucus Foundation
Implement communicationsstrategies and tactics to support CRES’ mission andgoals
Engage in dailycommunications strategies on key legislative issues
Support communicationsfunctions at CRES and CRES-sponsored events
Manage externalcommunications consultants to ensure deliverables meetexpectations
Oversee distributionlist management, working closely with other departments to ensuregrowth and accuracy
Provide input to theVice President of Communications for the development of CRES’communications workplan, including goal setting and trackingmetrics
Support ExternalRelations team with information needed for grant applications andreports
Ensure CRES brand andstyle guidelines are adhered to for all externalcontent
Performs other duties asassigned
Required Education, Experience andSkills:
Six to eight years ofexperience including time as a communications director, presssecretary or similar role on Capitol Hill, at a high-profilegovernment agency or for a high-profile public figure orcorporation
At least a four-yearcollege degree in a relevant field of study
Strong writing andediting skills, particularly for news outletpublications
Demonstrated trackrecord of developing advocacy messaging and talking points onnewsworthy topics from a conservative point of view
Incredible attention todetail and process-management skills – must have a proven record ofaccomplishment of shepherding projects from conception tosuccessful execution
Experience workingdirectly with principal-level officials for public events and mediainterviews
Professionalrelationships with senior policy and communications staff onCapitol Hill
Ability to execute adepartmental strategic plan that aligns with the organization'smission and goals
Working knowledge ofclimate and energy issues
Ability to workcollaboratively and efficiently; ability to successfully jugglemultiple priorities
Proficiency inMicrosoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevantsoftware
Ability to travel toout-of-state conferences
