About the Book Marketing and Sales Manager Position with OtterpineWe’re searching for an enthusiastic, book-loving, and experienced Book Marketing and Sales Manager to join Otterpine’s

. As Book Marketing and Sales Manager, you’ll work with a small team and a dynamic and amazing group of independent authors to develop and execute exceptional and individualized PR and marketing campaigns. You must be able to understand our clients’ needs and values and bridge norms in both independent and traditional publishing to create specialized campaigns for each author. As a small and growing company, we expect you to fill a dynamic, varying role, and you’ll be able to develop this position into your own.You’re a kind and empathetic person, curious by nature, thrive when working both independently and as part of a team, and enjoy a varied and dynamic work environment where you’re juggling lots of different tasks. You have a passion for books and a mastery of the written English language.This is ideally a hybrid remote and in-office position based in Asheville, but for the right candidate, we’ll consider fully remote work as long as you’re based in the United States and have a willingness to travel. We may also support relocation costs to Asheville for the right candidate. Ideally, you’ll work from our downtown Asheville office at least three days a week with some flexibility in your work schedule. This is not an entry level position. Your application will not be considered if you don’t meet this requirement.A bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Journalism, Publicity, or similar field OR equivalent experience.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent industry knowledge of book marketing, publicity, and sales in the indie publishing and/or traditional publishing industries.Experience with Amazon KDP, Seller Central, Advantage, and/or Amazon Ads.Experience with Ingram Spark, Draft2Digital, and other indie publishing platforms.Experience with book review platforms like Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Media and ARC platforms like NetGalley and Edelweiss.Experience with literary events, book fairs, and other industry events.Knowledge and experience with crafting and delivering professional pitches and news releases to media and retail outlets.Understanding of the book retail industry, including distribution platforms like Ingram Content Group and Baker & Taylor.Knowledge of media contact and engagement platforms like Cision.A deep understanding of the content marketing industry including podcasts, social media, and bloggers.Strong ability to act as an ambassador for a diverse group of authors, effectively communicating their values and goals.Reliable transportation to downtown Asheville office, to Asheville based warehouse, and for running occasional errands.A love of reading.Self-drive, a deep sense of curiosity, and eagerness to learn new things.Exceptional writing and editing skills.Creative thinker.Strong interpersonal skills and empathy for others.Book Marketing and Sales Manager ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute individualized marketing and publicity campaigns for our authors, catering to their budget and their goals.Follow the trends of indie publishing marketing and traditional publishing marketing and PR to better serve our authors.Actively manage and grow media and marketing contacts both in and outside of the Asheville area.Manage the sales platforms of authors’ direct e-commerce platforms, including fulfillment from our Asheville based warehouse.Pitch and book media coverage for author/titles to varying media outlets.Strongly understand the developments at Amazon, IngramSpark, and more to help our authors build effective online sales campaigns.Represent Otterpine and authors at key industry events, conferences, and more.Create marketing and PR plans, sales updates, and more to effectively communicate work and progress to our authors.Manage the varying marketing and PR budgets for individual authors and coordinate work with other freelancers and more.Work closely with our team and our authors during production to better find potential opportunities for success.Build and maintain wholesale and working relationships for our growing list of independent authors working both in and outside of Ingram.Bridge best practices in the traditional publishing industry to better serve our independent authors.Identify opportunities for our authors and books to increase their exposure and sales.
