We also provide instruction in the commercial aspects of film making as a business. Our approach is dedicated to practical, hands-on training in a collaborative framework. Students are immersed in a broad range of film making skills, including producing, directing, cinematography, lighting, sound, editing, screenwriting, production design, and acting.Academy of Art University is looking for a Lab Technician for Fall and Spring semesters for the School of Motion Pictures & Televisionto join their prestigious Motion Pictures and Television Department. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting students, faculty, and staff in solving technical problems.Responsibilities:Provide technical assistance to the faculty.

Answer technical questions concerning the film and video equipment including file management and video editing.

Research new hardware and software and assist the Technical Supervisor and the Lab Supervisor in the purchasing of products where appropriate and necessary.

Perform administrative duties including word processing, database management, and phone work.

Assist supervisors in troubleshooting problems and solutions that are often dealt with in each lab, that are to be updated as needed and typed for each tech log.

Requirements:Candidates must have at least 1-2 years’ work experience with the following programs:

AVID (required)

Premiere (required)

ProTools (preferred)

After Effects (preferred)

Must possess strong troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software on Macintosh and OS X

Must have a working knowledge of video editing, pro analog and DV decks, audio mixers, and applications

What an Academic Support Technician Will Do Each Day:Provide quality customer service to all students and faculty

Answer questions regarding resource allocation, use and returns

Quickly help to resolve matters that directly impact the work of students in a shop or computer lab environment

Support with inventory management and quality control

Assist, as needed, with software and hardware updates or machinery repairs

Ensure best practices are followed for respective work locations

What You Will Need to Bring to the Team:A positive attitude and solution-oriented mindset to successfully troubleshoot a variety of technical matters

Strong time management and organizational skill sets that enable you to support a number of individuals effectively and quickly

A passion for art and design and at least two years of related professional work experience

Knowledge of PCs and Macs is highly preferred. Respective software program and / or tool shop knowledge is necessary.
