To this end, over three-quarters of Better Earth’s corporate team are women or people from underrepresented populations.We operate in a fast-paced environment, which means we need team players who are comfortable rolling up their sleeves, speaking up, asking questions, innovating, building processes, pivoting when necessary, and loving learning.(PS: We also love goofy jokes, cooking, gardening, the outdoors, work-life balance, and big ideas.)Summary of PositionThe Better Earth Marketing Communications Manager (MCM) will work closely with the Vice President of Marketing and Partnership Development (VPMPD) and the Executive Team to develop and manage integrated marketing communications programs corresponding to the larger strategic goals of Better Earth. As part of the marketing team, this role will manage public relations activities, digital marketing programs, marketing communications, and trade show participation. The overall intent of this role is to help raise brand awareness, drive trial and reuse of the products, and advocate for increased use of compostable and reusable products as a driver of waste reduction and the creation of a more circular economy.The person hired for this position will need strong organizational and critical thinking skills and be extremely self-motivated. A solutions-based manager who drives projects with data-informed decision-making will incorporate industry best practices and an ethos of continuous improvement and transparency into their work.The ideal candidate will have a background or major in marketing or public relations and desire to work on various online platforms. They will also have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, publishing and analyzing multi-channel marketing communications campaigns, and using content generation programs. They will work with the VPMPD to support the sales team, in-house Senior Graphic Designer, and outside freelancers and suppliers, including print, digital, trade show, and PR/media resources.Key Role ResponsibilitiesPublic RelationsSupport building relationships with trade, business, and consumer media.Utilize an online PR platform to build and maintain a growing database of media contacts.Review and respond as the first point of contact to media requests.Write press releases, blog posts, FAQs, and other pertinent information for internal and external stakeholders.Develop story ideas and pitch them to the media.Orchestrate hosting media at trade show events.Develop relationships with key media influencers.Collaborate with the VPMPD on developing the annual PR/communications plans.Manage updating press kits, media submissions, and media product sampling.Review and post media clippings on the company website.Measure and analyze the effectiveness of communication campaigns and initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement.Keep updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging communication technologies.Trade Shows and ConferencesWork closely with the VPMPD and sales team to provide marketing support for trade shows, conferences, and other sales-related events.Create and manage trade shows.Submit company information, order badges and show support, provide proof of insurance, configure the booth, and submit invoices to accounting.Develop and maintain a trade show calendar, tracking key dates, progress, and deadlines for each event, assigning tasks, and ensuring timely completion of trade show deliverables.Manage booking hotels and meeting rooms and coordinate sales and marketing schedules as needed.Serve as the primary point of contact for trade show-related inquiries and communications, conduct regular meetings and provide updates to key stakeholders on trade show plans and progress.Orchestrate the setup and teardown of event spaces with the marketing and sales teams and help attendees install and tear down their booths.Use insights to continuously refine and improve trade show effectiveness. Present post-show reports highlighting key successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.Marketing CommunicationsCollaborate with the Better Earth team and external resources to develop and implement video, photography, and written content for the website, blog, and other appropriate digital marketing platforms.Create digital trade, consumer campaigns, and a monthly trade communication vehicle to include brand information and accolades.Monitor and respond to the Better Earth social community across multiple social media platforms.Participate in managing content for the Better Earth website, including landing pages and blog posts.Participate in writing copy for all digital and print literature.Ensure all content is proofed and consistent with the overall brand voice and aesthetic.Create messaging for, attend, and document key events and activities where Better Earth is involved or the product is placed.Support the VPMPD in building Better Earth’s brand and identity across the organization.Manage brand consistency in all Better Earth collateral, communications, and events, building on and sustaining a strong, compelling brand identity consistent with Better Earth’s mission and values.Collaborate with the VPMPD to extract and analyze data to make effective, efficient decisions about marketing plans, campaigns, and processes.Manage partner marketing opportunities (on-site visits, photo shoots, media/PR).AdministrationSupport the VPMPD in the continued evolution of the Marketing Department in collaboration with the Executive Team.Ensure Better Earth brand assets are properly utilized across all communications and brand channels and that the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are reflected in all aspects of Better Earth’s brand expression.Report monthly on digital marketing activities and analytics.Perform other duties as assigned by the VPMPD.SkillsBS/BA in Marketing, Public Relations, or equivalent.3 or more years of successful experience in marketing communication, PR, social media, or journalism.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong awareness and knowledge of environmental and social issues, with the ability to articulate these issues.Demonstrated experience developing written and visual content across social media channels with success.Motivated self-starter who thrives on engaging with the community to produce compelling materials.Passionate about PR and digital marketing and fluent in analytics.Ability to establish communication standards, follow style guides, and write with the proper tone and voice for specific audiences and brands.Experience with press releases and story submissions.Intermediate to advanced skills using Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, HTML, and image/video editing tools.A team player with an enthusiastic outlook and a creative mind that contributes added-value ideas.Experience with products sold in food service wholesale and retail is a plus.Maturity and professionalism are needed to represent Better Earth positively at events.Must be at least 21 years of age and able to work periodic evening or weekend events.Experience communicating technical and complex topics in accessible, compelling ways.Ability to multi-task, take risks, propose change, and solve problems creatively.Must be able to travel up to 30% of the time, especially during trade show season.Full-time, exempt position: 40+ hours/week with the flexibility required during trade shows, product launches, and catalog season.Additional ResponsibilitiesThe above is intended to describe the general requirements for performing this job.
