Merck Director, Global Oncology Communications Rahway, New Jersey Apply NowThe role of Director, Global Communications, Oncology is a unique opportunity to join our company, a recognized leader in oncology, as a key member of the Global Oncology Communications team. The role is dedicated to managing day-to-day communications related to our company’s broad oncology portfolio, with a specific focus on our marketed and investigational indications in lung, head & neck and melanoma. The candidate selected for this role will work under the guidance of the Executive Director, Global Oncology Communications, in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following key activities:

Lead communications activities in support of our company’s lung, head & neck, and melanoma oncology program; heavy emphasis on milestone communications (regulatory approvals, data releases, medical meeting communications).

Drive global and US unbranded communications efforts around lung cancer screening.

Responsible for communication to internal and external audiences in alignment with the company’s corporate narrative and Global Oncology business strategy while continuously partnering with Global & U.S. Oncology marketing leaders to develop strategic communications aligned with key business priorities.

Proactively evaluate innovative and creative omni-channel strategies to engage with internal and external stakeholders aligned with key priorities; ensure that the strategies are robust and complementary.

Develop and communicate strategies, programs and materials for use by our company’s regions and subsidiaries worldwide; help advise regions and subsidiaries for franchise and product communications issues.

Serve as a liaison to third party groups (including advocacy organizations) and external experts (including researchers) and to trade and local news media.

Work directly with public relations agencies and help manage related budgets.

Manage direct report supporting our company’s oncology portfolio.

Position Qualifications:

Commute/Location:

This role is based at our Headquarters site in Rahway, NJ (USA), with a Hybrid setup (combination of an in-office & remote). This position cannot be 100% remote.

Education Minimum Requirements:

Minimum of a BA required.

Skills/Experience:

A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in a communications or public relations role within the pharmaceutical or a related industry (hospital, public health, etc.)

Oncology experience preferred but not required.

Excellent written and oral communications skills across a variety of mediums/channels (e.g., print, digital, presentation).

Strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and competing priorities.

Team player, collaborative spirit, ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-visibility role.

Budget and agency management experience.

Proven ability to prepare strategic communications plans and deliver at the tactical level.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day.

Expected salary range:

$164,800.00 - $259,400.00

Available benefits include:

bonus eligibility, long term incentive if applicable, health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and sick days.
