Job Summary

Peer Academic Mentors are course-embedded writing consultants who tutor students in writing-intensive English, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Psychology, Social Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts Departments.Responsibilities

The mentor partners with a faculty member to help students with writing skills in the faculty member's classes. Mentors serve as aids and resources in students' writing process and not as editors. Through their work, mentors help their peers navigate the writing process, cultivate critical thinking skills, and promote a sense of belonging.While all mentors will interact with students on Desire2Learn, some mentors will also regularly attend classes on campus. In addition, mentors will be available to provide one-on-one tutoring at the Writers' Studio. Some mentors may facilitate small group workshops in class, virtually, or in the Writers' Studio.Mentors will also attend regular training meetings on campus and virtually during the semester.This is a great opportunity for students seeking to develop professionally and enhance their resumes through self-directed projects.Required Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a student at Clayton State UniversityMust have completed ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102, with at least a BMust have a minimum overall 3.0 GPAMust possess strong oral and written communication skillsMust be an effective team playerMust possess strong interpersonal skillsMust be detail-orientedMust be able to take the initiative in collaborative projectsMust be comfortable with Word, Excel, and PowerPointUSG Core Values
