Oakland Hills Country Club

is one of the pre-eminent country clubs in the United States. The Club is home to two championship courses offering a legendary golf experience. Our membership, one of the largest in the Great Lakes region, enjoys a broad range of engaging social activities and recreational programs that promote friendship and create lifelong memories for our member families.

Oakland Hills is amidst one of the most critical points of the Club's history as we embark on a multiyear clubhouse construction project following the fire of 2022. Along with the clubhouse, we are building on a foundation of delivering consistent, high-quality services and amenities for a world-class experience throughout the Club.

Position Summary:

The

Director of Communications

leads the Communications team, directing and empowering them toward shared goals, ensuring a cohesive voice and brand identity for ALL Oakland Hills Country Club communications: inbound and outbound.

Essential Responsibilities:

Develops an integrated communications plan for the Club.

Oversees all strategic communication initiatives and content creation for designated audiences to maximize engagement.

Ensures communication and marketing efforts align with the strategic communication plan.

Leads by hiring, training, developing, reviewing team performance, and building accountability throughout the communications department.

Oversees club-wide document management system.

Manages media relationships with internal and external sources.

General Tasks:

Maintain process, checklists and standards for editing and executing communication plan.

Review the Club website, mobile app, and social/external media regularly and updates as needed.

Lead projects that affect multiple departments and staff (i.e. website/app rebuild or refresh).

Identify opportunities for improved communications across departments.

Document required and recurring annual communications to members and staff.

Direct content creation for a variety of platforms ensuring timeliness and brand identity.

Develop and manage the Communication department budget.

Participate in annual planning, strategic visioning, and implementation meetings.

Represent the GM at appropriate meetings and events as needed.

Build strong relationships with Club team members, professional organizations (i.e. CMAA, PCMA, etc.), and local and national media.

Monitor local, regional, and national coverage of the club.

Identify public speaking opportunities and create talking points for GM and other Club leaders.

Assist with content and branding of leadership presentations and messaging.

Advise and prepare the GM on critical communication issues, interviews, and special projects.

Engage with national professional organizations and actively participate in professional development (i.e. CMAA, PCMA, etc.).

Utilize club- and non-industry-specific technology to enhance member and staff experience.

Attend Club events as assigned, including evening and weekend events.

Qualifications:

Required:

Minimum of five years' related professional experience, private Club preferred.

Professional growth through various levels of communication roles.

Proven success with developing and leading teams of 1-5 people.

Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the club.

Specialized knowledge or professional experience in multiple areas including strategic communication planning, public relations, marketing, media relations, brand strategy, visual communications, SEO, etc.

Superb storyteller with the ability to engage multiple types of audiences through different channels and a variety of media.

Exceptional verbal and written communicator with a clear, compelling, and accessible voice.

Outstanding writing and editing skills across multiple platforms.

Experience project managing complex communications initiatives and programs.

Minimum two years' experience supervising staff.

Minimum two years' experience building and managing budgets.

Minimum two years' project management experience.

Preferred:

Work experience related to the Country Club industry.

Experience or specialized knowledge building a national profile for an organization.

Technical proficiency in one or more areas such as video, audio, photography, graphic design, animation, website design, social media, print production.

Understanding of trends in communications and technology and how they apply in the Club industry.

Experience working in a shared project management system.
