Summary

The Music Director (contracted employee) is responsible for developing, leading, and overseeing the music ministry of the church. This role involves planning and directing music for worship services, special events, and other church-related activities. The Music Director will collaborate with the pastor, church staff, and volunteers to create an inclusive and spiritually enriching musical experience for the congregation. The Music Director is directly accountable to the Pastor with general supervision from the Board of Trustees.

Job Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate music for all worship services, including selecting hymns, anthems, and other musical pieces.

Recruit, train, and direct choirs, ensembles, and soloists for regular and special services.

Schedule and conduct regular rehearsals to prepare for worship services and special events.

Encourage participation and foster a sense of community within the music ministry.

Introduce new musical styles and repertoires to engage a diverse congregation.

Plan and organize special musical events, such as concerts, seasonal programs, and outreach activities.

Develop and implement a vision for the church’s music ministry that enhances worship and spiritual growth.

Collaborate with the pastor to ensure music aligns with the worship themes and liturgical calendar.

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in music, music education, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with equivalent professional experience in lieu of education will be considered.

Experience directing church music programs, choirs, and ensembles.

Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in playing piano, organ, or other instruments commonly used in worship settings.

Strong vocal skills and ability to lead congregational singing.

Knowledge of various musical styles, including traditional hymns, contemporary worship, and choral music.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with church staff, volunteers, and congregation members.

Work Schedule

Approximately 4-5 hours per week, including Sunday services, rehearsals, and special events.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Job Type: Part-time
