Position Title: BUYER/EXPEDITOR

Location: HOUSTON, TX

FLSA Class: EXEMPT

Position Summary:

The Buyer/Expeditor is responsible for the procurement of materials, goods, and services required by the company. This role involves managing relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery to support uninterrupted production and operations. The Buyer/Expeditor will monitor inventory levels, track shipments, and expedite orders when necessary to meet project deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Procurement Management:Identify and evaluate suppliers for required goods and services.Negotiate terms, pricing, and contracts with vendors to secure the best deals.Issue purchase orders and ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures.

Expediting:Monitor open purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of materials and services.Communicate with suppliers to expedite orders that are behind schedule.Resolve any issues related to delayed deliveries or quality concerns in a timely manner.

Inventory Control:Track inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstock situations.Coordinate with warehouse and production teams to maintain optimal inventory levels.Implement and manage vendor-managed inventory programs where applicable.

Supplier Relationship Management:Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure high-quality and reliable deliveries.Evaluate supplier performance and conduct regular reviews to improve service and delivery times.Collaborate with suppliers to improve lead times and reduce costs.

Reporting & Documentation:Maintain accurate records of all procurement activities, including purchase orders, invoices, and supplier communications.Prepare regular reports on procurement status, delivery schedules, and cost savings achieved.Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Cross-functional Collaboration:Work closely with the engineering, production, and finance teams to understand material requirements and budgets.Coordinate with quality assurance teams to ensure that purchased materials meet required standards.Support project management teams by providing updates on material availability and delivery schedules.

Other Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a similar role.Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment is highly desirable.Strong negotiation and contract management skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Knowledge of inventory management principles and practices.Primarily office-based with some travel to supplier sites as required.May involve occasional exposure to warehouse or production environments.Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.A proactive and self-motivated approach to work.Proven track record of integrity.Valid Driver's License.
