This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are currently expected to work from the Academy offices at least 2-3 times per week, which may fluctuate based on business needs. Candidates are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws.About the Creative Studio Team:Creative Studio is the in-house design department of the Academy, deeply involved in projects inside the museum and beyond its walls. Composed of multidisciplinary designers, photographers, and a studio manager, this team is responsible for developing engaging and educational environments and crafting communications that people respond to and delight in.Key Responsibilities:Design and production:

Create, redesign, revise, or assist in the design and production of Academy graphics and digital assets, including:

Web Projects:

Work on web modules, page designs, and graphics for the calacademy.org website, ticketing platform, Academy microsites, and BigPicture.org.Digital Assets:

Graphics for email, social media, presentations, streaming platforms, and other screen-based formats.Digital Signage:

UI and design for non-exhibit museum signage such as wayfinding and information signage.Digital Exhibit projects:

UI and iconography for exhibit interactives.Design Process:

Carry ideas through design cycles to define visual, UI, and UX design through mockups, wireframes, interaction flows, and prototypes.

Imagery:

Create and revise graphics for implementation in formats such as:

Illustration:

Create new work and/or modify existing Academy illustrations.Photo preparation:

Source and modify images in the Academy’s image libraries.

Other:

Follow all Academy safety regulations.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have the following:Project Portfolio:

A strong portfolio that demonstrates modern design and thoughtful, innovative problem-solving.Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction Design, Web Design, Graphic Design, or related field.Minimum three years of interactive design experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Branding, design, and typography:

Excellent typography and visual design skills.User Experience/User Interface:

Excellent UX, UI, digitally-oriented visual design skills.Collaboration:

Work as part of a team, take direction, and seek help when needed.Communication:

Communicate clearly with coworkers and museum guests.Interpersonal:

Take initiative, work efficiently, and communicate appropriately.Organization:

Be organized and responsible and work on multiple projects at once.Office apps:

Work well within Asana, Google, and Microsoft apps.Mission-alignment:

The hourly range for this position is $36.06 - $40.87. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience.Schedule:
