Wood has an exciting opportunity for a Field Piping Designer to work on our client's office and field locations in the Midland, TX area. Project work is associated with brownfield surface facilities retrofits, expansions, and debottlenecking projects, primarily in the mechanical/piping space.

Key activities include:Engineering for gas compression capacity expansion (e.g., 20MMSCFD to 60MMSCFD)Vapor Recovery Units to eliminate flaringPipeline capacity expansion and debottleneckingProcessing facilities optimization, including crude oil separation, water treatment, pumping capacity, utilities upgrades, and electrical systems retrofitsMinor piping and mechanical retrofits in existing facilitiesProduced fluids metering facilitiesSite walkdowns, mark-ups development, and as-built documentation

RESPONSIBILITIESJob Objective:Contribute to engineering excellence by linking design theory and practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible end-products.Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or general engineering informationCreate designs and detailed plans for commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures and systemsHandle technical assignments of substantial variety and complexityPrepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and models using CAD/CADD softwareRole and Key Accountabilities:Produce facility designs and layouts with knowledge of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systemsUnderstand codes applicable to equipment and construction (NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, OSHA, NFPA, local codes, MCBU standards, and Chevron Engineering Standards)Perform design tasks for purchasing and construction level drawings with limited supervisionCreate reliable CAD models with precision, including assemblies, exploded view diagrams, and layouts with BOMsDevelop and improve department practices/standardsReview scope documents and specifications to ensure design meets SOW expectations and COMPANY requirementsExecute designs on challenging projectsConduct design reviews and travel to COMPANY jobsites as requiredTypically, 5+ years of relevant design experience in oil and gas, industrial construction, or power generation industriesDevelop working drawings from equipment specifications and detailed drawingsCreate drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations, and bills of materialPerform layouts, design, and checking work from basic data suppliedDesign and make detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculationsEstablish project drafting standards and monitor their conformanceIdentify cost-effective solutions to design problemsAssist in bid evaluationsDesign and construct models, prototypes, processes, or equipmentPrepare estimates of time, quantities, materials, and labor required for testing, installation, manufacture, design, or constructionGenerate bill of materials from finished designsAct as coordinator on small projects and prepare specifications for complex equipment and processesEnsure quality in design and technical accuracy in drawings and material quantitiesPlan assigned work effectively and liaise with the project team and line managerConduct site visits/surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports

QUALIFICATIONSQualifications:

5-10 years related engineering design experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Full understanding of materials and methods used in their disciplineUnderstanding of related engineering principles and practicesCapable of interpreting key documents (engineering standards, piping material specifications, P&IDs, Line Lists)Competent user of CAD/D software
