What you will learn and contribute to

We are offering an exciting position as Distinguished Scientist, Video Coding within Nokia Technologies CTO Video Research unit. In this role, you will have the chance to grow and foster your video coding expertise. You will:

Develop novel video coding algorithms and solutions for next generation video codecs improving compression efficiency and enabling new user experiences, also for new and emerging types of video content.Initiate and create innovative video coding solutions as well as contribute to research work that leads to technology transfer, publications and Intellectual Property.Participate in hands-on research work and contribute to standardization as part of an experienced and creative team.

The primary location for this position is Tampere, Finland. Other locations may be considered (e.g. Germany, UK, France, USA).

Your skills and experience

You have a PhD degree in a relevant field (electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, mathematics, or physics). A very experienced MSc candidate may be considered.Hands-on expertise in the latest video coding standards, such as Versatile Video Coding or High Efficiency Video Coding is required. Experience with H.267/ECM is a plus.Good software development skills in C and C++.We require a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in algorithm development in video coding tools, immersive video coding, or related fields.You have a strong track record in international video coding standardization (MPEG/JVET).You have produced a good number of scientific publications in video compression or related areas.Strong verbal communication and presentation skills in English along with excellent technical and scientific writing skills in English.

The following additional skills or experience are valued:

A track record of patent creation and/or technology transfers in the fields of video/image signal processing and compression.Solid understanding and enthusiasm for emerging video formats.Neural network based image/video compression.
