Director of Broadcast Network Operations

to lead and innovate technical operations, ensuring seamless broadcasts and exceptional viewer engagement across multiple platforms. This role involves overseeing production transmission and distribution activities, managing Network Operations Engineering & Scheduling, and driving innovation in broadcast network architecture, including on-premise, remote, and cloud-based solutions. The Director will identify operational gaps, collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve efficiency, and elevate production capabilities. This position reports directly to the SVP, GM, Broadcast Technology & Innovation.

Increase your chances of an interview by reading the following overview of this role before making an application.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesOversee the integration and daily management of third-party Network Administration & NOC services, ensuring system operations support for all users and partners effectively.Develop, implement, and monitor operating policies and procedures for the Broadcast Network Operations unit, along with relevant performance metrics in tandem with League requirements.Continuously adapt procedures to leverage advancements in technology platforms and enhance operational efficiency.Identify and troubleshoot issues that may impact daily operations or project delivery, with a streamlined process for escalating significant issues.Serve as the primary point of contact between the NOC, internal stakeholders, and external partners.Manage staff scheduling, task assignments, and goal setting for the internal operations team to align with vendor operations.Promote an inclusive work culture, drive cross-team collaboration, and spearhead technological innovation.Recruit, train, and onboard new staff to align with departmental processes and the integrated vendor system.Manage project budgets, workflows, and schedules, ensuring they are integrated and aligned with overall production requirements and vendor capabilities.Audit staff performance and industry trends to keep the department’s skills and processes up to date.Lead transmission efforts for remote, studio, and cloud-based productions in collaboration with third-party vendors.Work closely with senior management to resolve critical technical issues with production partners and develop strategic solutions.Maintain operational level SOPs and update signal flow diagrams in conjunction with vendor operations.Prepare and ensure timely submission of Post Show Reports post-events.Take on additional responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.Minimum Qualifications And RequirementsOver 10 years of experience in a live broadcast engineering environment, with a focus on Network Administration, Master Control, and Transmission.At least 3 years in a leadership role within engineering or operations.Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCENT, CCNA.Proficiency in data communications, network design, configuration integration, and troubleshooting.Experience with cloud infrastructures, primarily AWS, and knowledge of public carrier setups.Advanced understanding of wireless technologies and standards.Proven leadership ability with experience in large-scale project management.Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and travel as needed. Ability to obtain a U.S. passport.Participation in necessary background checks for high-security projects.Deep knowledge of broadcast technologies, including analog, digital, satellite RF, and IP-based transmission.Expert understanding of video compression codecs, video over IP, and digital transmission technologies.Strong capability to analyze, identify, and diagnose issues in data networks and broadcast systems.Demonstrated leadership with a proven record of managing, delegating, and executing tasks effectively in a collaborative environment.Maintain professionalism and provide guidance in high-pressure situations.Agile and strategic thinker with strong organizational skills.High level of self-motivation and technical proficiency.The Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) will launch in October across multiple platforms. The network will air more than 300 live Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox games annually and include pre- and postgame coverage while showing multisport programming 24 hours a day. CHSN will broadcast from studios located in both Chicago’s United Center and Guaranteed Rate Field. The network will start airing Blackhawks and Bulls preseason games in October, showing White Sox games beginning in 2025.We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity.
