Job Description

Vanderbilt University is seeking an Associate Director, Digital Media & Learning Technology to serve as a key leader in the Office of Learning Innovation in the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professional Education (OFAPE). Under the inspiring leadership of Provost C. Cybele Raver, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professional Education is leading bold new initiatives and strengthening existing programs. The Associate Director, Digital Media & Learning Technology reports directly to the Executive Director, Office of Learning Innovation.

The Associate Director is responsible for leading the Digital Media and Learning Technology team in the Office of Learning Innovation. This role will be responsible for shaping and implementing the overall strategic vision for digital media and learning technology adoption at Vanderbilt, managing a team of digital media and learning technology experts, and collaborating with cross-functional partners across the institution to advance the objectives of the Office of Learning Innovation and the Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education (AdvanCED), of which it is part.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professional Education (OFAPE) in the Office of the Provost is led by the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professional Education (VP). OFAPE exists to support and champion Vanderbilt faculty at every stage of their career and to promote and advise professional academic programs. Vanderbilt University has over 4,000 full-time faculty across ten existing schools and colleges and a new college of connected computing that will launch in Fall 2025. OFAPE works with all faculty and academic program while taking on additional responsibilities and roles for professional schools and programs.

OFAPE includes the Office of Faculty Appointments, the Office of Faculty Development, The Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education (AdvancED), which includes both the Office of Learning Innovation and the Office of Education Design and Development, and lastly, the Office of Academic Program Review, Assessment, and Accreditation (OAPRAA). The OFAPE leadership team includes six directors (one for each of those offices as well as the director for strategy and communications) and two associate provosts (faculty affairs and academic affairs).

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Management:

Partner with faculty and academic units across Vanderbilt to drive the strategic adoption of learning innovative tools, including digital media and learning technologieso

Develop and implement strategic vision for digital media and learning technology team that is aligned with larger institutional prioritieso

Drive team goal-setting and planning with a focus on definition and management of team l objectives and key results (OKRs)o

Manage a team of digital media specialists and learning technologists who support faculty and facilitate innovation in teaching and learningo

Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and best practices in educational technology, online learning, and digital mediao

Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and exceptional support services.

Digital Media & Design:

Oversee the creation of high-quality video and multimedia content for online courses, programs and marketing initiatives

Produce video assets to highlight Vanderbilt faculty achievements and impact

Partner with Office of Learning Innovation marketing team to define and manage standardized marketing and design processes

Learning Technology:

Define and implement optimal learning technology support model to meet institutional needs

Develop and ensure the consistent application of support procedures, often in conjunction with vendors or campus partners, to maximize the team’s effectiveness

Manage relationships with vendors and cross-functional partners in Vanderbilt’s ed tech ecosystem

Gather and analyze instructor needs assessments in support of strategic university decisions about educational technology

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution of higher education is required.

At least 5-7 years of relevant experience.

A proven record of building and managing teams is required.

Superior verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to articulate and present information to various and diverse audiences is necessary.

Evidence of exceptional judgment and decision-making skills is necessary.

Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information is necessary.

Ability to think strategically to manage multiple projects/initiatives with changing priorities and strict deadlines in a rapidly changing environment is necessary.

Evidence of working with multiple diverse constituencies in a confident and supportive manner is necessary.

Experience using audio and video production equipment, field and studio cameras, sound, lighting equipment, and editing software is required.

Experience in designing and delivering training and web-based resources on the use of studio equipment and software applications is required.

Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud- with a focus on Davinci Resolve, After Effects, and Photoshop is required.

A strong portfolio showcasing previous video editing work, showcasing storytelling, editing, and creativity is required.

An understanding of video editing concepts such as video codecs, aspect ratios, frame rates, and resolution is required.

An understanding of the learning technology landscape and trends is necessary.

Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and challenges in higher education is necessary.
