The Communications and Marketing Specialist assists the Undergraduate Education Marketing and Communications Manager with conceptualizing, developing, and executing marketing and communications for Undergraduate Education units.

Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesCreates marketing strategies to promote services, programs, resources, opportunities, and unit-specific information for students, faculty, and staff.Develops digital graphics and content; designs communication that delivers high quality consistent messaging with IU brand identity.Assists Undergraduate Education Marketing Manager in creating, managing, and overseeing marketing and communications efforts to promote UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION units. This includes brainstorming, planning, executing, and distributing content on various platforms; brainstorming, consulting, and planning social content strategies for the units' social media channels.Coordinates event marketing strategies and materials for small and large-scale events, being involved throughout the planning stages to take advantage of optimal marketing opportunities.Manages the publication of various newsletters, which includes the following responsibilities: information gathering; writing/compiling content; editing, formatting; scheduling & sharing articles and events with students via email.In conjunction with UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION IT, administers website management: updates websites regarding alerts, events, and minor content updates.Conceptualizes, creates, and implements visual media products, including graphics, photos, and videos utilizing Adobe Creative Suite for distribution online, on social media, and in print publications.Uses multimedia platforms for creative visual storytelling weaving photos/videos, sight/sound and copy together to tell a cohesive story.Uses marketing data analytics and institutional reports to analyze target audiences and interpret findings for use in optimized communications and student engagement strategies.Conceptualizes ideas and creates designs for promotional items for various programs in consultation with program directors and Undergraduate Education Marketing and Communications Manager.Identifies and manages vendor relationships to accommodate departmental promotional item needs, creative design needs; request estimates and proofs, serve as liaison to vendors.Performs other related duties as needed.General Responsibilities

Independently creates basic communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or functional area within department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field.Preferred

Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, design, media studies, or a closely related field.WORK EXPERIENCE

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

Level of Decision Making:

This position manages multiple projects with conflicting deadlines. Position is responsible for translating ideas and concepts into strategic messages that affect internal and external stakeholders. This position must be able to assess priorities to determine how best to meet all the demands within UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION, while ensuring compliance with University policies. This position meets with Associate Vice Provosts and/or Directors and assists with design elements for marketing materials.

Scope and Impact:

This position will be responsible for a wide range of vital operational processes related to communications and marketing projects. The actions and decisions of this person affect the outcomes of other team members, campus partners, campaigns, and communications and marketing initiatives.
